Spatial Dynamics and Lifespan of Adult Cicadas After Fire and Logging: A Radiotracking Study

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, Volume 21, Issue 2, Page 359-370, March 2026.
This study investigates the effects of wildfire and post‐fire salvage logging on the survival, spatial behavior, and habitat selection of Lyristes plebejus cicadas in Mediterranean pine forests. A total of 63 cicadas were captured, tagged with radio transmitters, and released in three disturbance contexts: burnt‐logged, burnt‐unlogged, and unburnt ...

Acoustic Indices Reveal Fundamental Differences in Daily Phenology of Tropical and Temperate Forest Soundscapes

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Biogeography, Volume 35, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Forests support the majority of the planet's terrestrial biodiversity, and in recent years the characterisation of soundscapes has emerged as a powerful tool for understanding forest ecosystems, both in terms of ecology and for the purpose of conservation.

Versions of trixenic life cycles trematodes from Bithynia (Gastropoda: Proso-branchia Вithyniidae) Palaearctic

open access: yesРоссийский паразитологический журнал, 2016
The data on specific structure of trematodes in mollusks from genius Bithynia are done. It is revealed, that 33 species of trematodes 19 genius of 12 families from Bithynia Palaearctic have 12 versions of trixenic life cycles.

Toward a global repository of insect traits (GRIT)

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, Volume 19, Issue 2, Page 253-267, March 2026.
Biodiversity loss is accelerating, yet insect conservation is hindered by the absence of a centralised, comprehensive trait database. We propose the GRIT, a FAIR, open‐access platform uniting datasets and collaborators worldwide. GRIT will harness advanced computational tools for trait acquisition and imputation, enabling large‐scale ecological ...

Five Hidden Species in a Widespread European Vertebrate: Disentangling the Alpine Newt Cryptic Species Complex Through Genomic Phylogeography

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 35, Issue 5, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Through genomic phylogeography, previously unrecognised biodiversity can be revealed. The alpine newt serves as a case in point: this taxon carries highly distinct mtDNA clades and has a severely fragmented range. We obtain genome‐wide data with target enrichment by sequence capture to delineate cryptic species and disentangle their ...

Two-winged insects (Insecta: Diptera) of Pirin

open access: yesHistoria Naturalis Bulgarica, 2015
A total of 742 two-winged species that belong to 43 families have been reported from Pirin Mt. The larger number of species (394 species, or 53.2%) has been found in the beech forest belt.

Comparative analysis of range sizes in Helicidae s.l. (Pulmonata, Gastropoda) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
I analysed the importance of shell size, shell shape, habitat preferences and availability, experienced climate, active dispersal and influence of Pleistocene glaciations for the range sizes of 37 Western Palaearctic Helicidae s.l.

Biogeography and host associations of Russula subsection Xerampelinae based on large‐scale analysis of UNITE sequence data

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 5, Page 2547-2558, March 2026.
Summary Estimating fungal geographic ranges and niche potential is limited by the ephemeral nature of fruiting bodies. While environmental DNA offers broader insights, species‐level identification remains difficult due to uncertain sequence clustering thresholds, low interspecific variation in barcoding regions, and limited taxonomic resolution.
