Skeletally Anchored Maxillary Expansion—A Current Consensus

open access: yesJournal of Indian Orthodontic Society
Maxillary transverse deficiency (MTD) is a common affliction among orthodontic patients, affecting 8%-17% of the population. Historically, MTDs have been treated using rapid palatal expanders (RPEs), typically anchored on molar and premolar teeth ...

Skeletal and dentoalveolar effects on the midpalatal suture and maxillary arch assessed by occlusal radiographs and three-dimensional digital models in patients treated with invisalign palatal expander and rapid palatal expander: a pilot study

open access: yesFrontiers in Dental Medicine
IntroductionMaxillary transverse deficiency (MTD) is a common craniofacial condition associated with posterior crossbite, dental crowding, and compromised respiratory function.

Evolutionary radiation of large‐bodied gorgonopsians from the lower Abrahamskraal formation of South Africa

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The middle Permian represents a critical interval in therapsid evolution, when gorgonopsians emerged as some of the first specialized apex predators within terrestrial ecosystems. Despite their significance, the early diversification of Gorgonopsia in Gondwana remains poorly understood due to scarcity and fragmentary material.

Surgically Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion and Mini-screw Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion - A review

open access: yesAcademic Journal of Research and Scientific Publishing, 2021
This review was undertaken to compare the effects of surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion (SARPE) and mini-screw assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE). Discrepancies in the transverse relation between maxillary and mandibular dentition can result in the development of posterior cross bite. For the correction of posterior cross bite, maxillary

Morpho‐functional analyses of the jaw apparatus in the Blue‐and‐yellow Macaw (Ara ararauna, Psittaciformes, Aves): Adaptations to feeding behavior

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Macaws are renowned for processing dry, mechanically resistant fruits, yet the species‐level anatomical and functional correlates of this performance remain incompletely resolved. We examined the feeding apparatus of the Blue‐and‐yellow Macaw (Ara ararauna) using an integrated approach that combines osteology, myology, and bite‐force estimates

Lateral Cephalometric Analysis of Maxillary Positional Changes Treated by Mini-implant Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion vs. Hyrax Expansion: Comparative Prospective Study

open access: yesSulaimani Dental Journal
Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the skeletal, dental, and soft tissue evaluation of mini-implant-assisted rapid palatal expansion and hyrax expansion, most commonly used to treat maxillary transverse deficiency, on lateral ...

Effects of oropharyngeal neuromuscular stimulation on the volumetric enlarged and reduced tongue base in minipigs

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Hypoglossal nerve or tongue protruding muscle stimulation is a current treatment option for obstructive sleep apnea. Thus, the present study analyzed 3D deformations of the volumetric enlarged and reduced tongue base upon oropharyngeal neuromuscular stimulation.

Different shape but the same topographical complexity—The lingual gross anatomy of the Saimaa (Pusa saimensis) and Baltic ringed seals (Pusa hispida botnica)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Despite the distinctly different shapes of their tongues, the tongue gross anatomy of Saimaa ringed seal closely resembled that of Baltic ringed seal. There were no differences in the extrinsic and intrinsic tongue muscles or their associated vascularization and innervation between Saimaa and Baltic ringed seals.
