Vegetation context and climatic limits of the Early Pleistocene hominin dispersal in Europe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The vegetation and the climatic context in which the first hominins entered and dispersed in Europe during the Early Pleistocene are reconstructed, using literature review and a new climatic simulation. Both in situ fauna and in situ pollen at the twelve

Holocene biogeography of the southwestern European white‐toothed shrew (Crocidura iculisma, Eulipotyphla) through its fossil record

open access: yesMammal Review, Volume 55, Issue 2, April 2025.
The shrew Crocidura iculisma has a fragmented distribution limited to southwestern Europe. This study analyzes changes in its geographic distribution including palaeontological and modern data, revealing a significant reduction its range during the Holocene due to competitive exclusion by Crocidura russula and climatic changes.

Investigation of the tectonic framework of the Sumatra

open access: yesDizhi lixue xuebao
Objective  The tectonic units in Sumatra were considered as the two parts: Eastern and Western blocks. Generally, the East Sumatra block affiliated with Gondwana, due to its late Paleozoic “cold-water fauna” (Alas limestone) and pebbly mudstone (Bohorok ...

Morfología polínica de las Proteaceae nativas de Argentina: una nueva clave dicotómica para su identificación [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A dichotomous key for the identification of eight proteaceous species, native to Argentina, based on pollen morphology is presented. These species are: Embothrium coccineum, Gevuina avellana, Lomatia dentata, L. ferruginea, L.

Paleocene orthophragminids from the Lakadong Limestone, Mawmluh Quarry section, Meghalaya (Shillong, NE India). Implications for the regional geology and paleobiogeography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The late Paleocene orthophragminids, hitherto poorly known from the Himalayan foreland basins, are studied from the Lakadong Limestone in Meghalaya, northeastern India, in order to establish a systematic, biostratigraphic, and paleobiogeographical ...

Using Marine Snails to Teach Biogeography and Macroevolution: The Role of Larvae and Dispersal Ability in the Evolution and Persistence of Species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
While some marine animals are capable of traveling great distances, many have limited mobility as adults and spend the majority of their lifetimes in a small geographical area or may even be cemented to a single place.

First Report of Middle Eocene Micromorphic Brachiopods from Northeastern Libya: Taxonomy and Paleobiogeography Implications

open access: yesDiversity
Two brachiopod species, Terebratulina tenuistriata (Leymerie, 1846) and Orthothyris pectinoides (von Koenen, 1984), have been recorded for the first time from the Middle Eocene (Late Lutetian) nummulitic limestone beds in the Darnah Formation at the Wadi

A new zygodactylid species indicates the persistence of stem passerines into the early Oligocene in North America

open access: yesBMC Evolutionary Biology, 2019
Background The lake deposits of the informal Ruby Paper Shale unit, part of the Renova Formation of Montana, have yielded abundant plant fossils that document Late Eocene – Early Oligocene global cooling in western North America.
