A Historian’s Introduction to Paleoclimatology
In the case of early societies we largely rely on natural proxy data, i.e. indirect indicators of climate and weather that are independent of man-made sources. Although they are sometimes mistakenly presented as direct climate data, they are indirect indicators of meteorological conditions.

Stable Isotopes in Tree Rings [PDF]
This Open Access volume highlights how tree ring stable isotopes have been used to address a range of environmental issues from paleoclimatology to forest management, and anthropogenic impacts on forest growth.

Growing season thermal climate reconstructed at six pine stands in northern Lapland [PDF]
At the northern coniferous timberline of the boreal region, growing season temperature is generally the major environmental factor limiting the growth processes of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.). Variations in annual ring-widths of pines can be related

Additions to the Last Millennium Reanalysis Multi-Proxy Database
Progress in paleoclimatology increasingly occurs via data syntheses. We describe additions to a collection prepared for use in paleoclimate state estimation, specifically the Last Millennium Reanalysis (LMR).

Reevaluating Links Between Meteorite Impacts and Early Cenozoic Global Warming
The Paleocene‐Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM) and the lower Chron 29n hyperthermal event were recently proposed to have been triggered by the meteorite impacts that formed the Marquez Dome (Texas, USA; 58.3 ± 3.1 Ma) and Boltysh (Ukraine; 65.39 ± 0.14 Ma ...

Snowpack signals in North American tree rings
Climate change has contributed to recent declines in mountain snowpack and earlier runoff, which in turn have intensified hydrological droughts in western North America.

A Study on Possible Solar Influence on the Climate of the Southern Hemisphere
Three multi-proxy reconstructions of temperature in the Southern Hemisphere, were analyzed over the last millennium. Fourier and wavelet analysis showed that century-scale (55–120 years) and bicentennial (ca 250 years) variability is present in this ...
