Functional morphology and biomechanics of the locomotor apparatus in the large Late Triassic carnivore Postosuchus kirkpatricki (Archosauria: Rauisuchidae)

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
A three‐dimensional model is used to analyze the locomotor biomechanics of the large Late Triassic archosaurian reptile Postosuchus kirkpatricki. The study finds that it is more uncertain than previously concluded whether it was quadrupedal or bipedal, and plantigrade or digitigrade, but it clearly had locomotor specializations including large hindlimb

A New Irvingtonian Water Shrew (Insectivora: Soricidae) from Nuckolls County, Nebraska: Systematics, Functional Morphology and Paleoecology

open access: yes, 2000
Eight species of three genera of shrews were recovered from the Albert Ahrens Site, Nuckolls County, Nebraska. Based on dental morphology, biomechanics, and paleoecology, one of these is believed to represent a previously undescribed species of water ...

Norian sponge and coral biostromes in the Antimonio Formation, northwestem Sonora, Mexico

open access: yesRevista Mexicana de Ciencias Geológicas, 2018
A diverse marine invertebrate fauna has previously been documented from the Norian carbonate interval of the Antimonio terrane. However, little research has been aimed at understanding its paleoecology, fine scale stratigraphy, and depositional ...

The revision of baphetids from the Middle Pennsylvanian of the Czech Republic: Morphology, ontogeny, palaeoecology, and the reassessment of the phylogeny of Baphetoidea

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 309, Issue 7, Page 1766-1787, July 2026.
Abstract The baphetoids represent a clade of the Carboniferous stem‐tetrapods (Middle Mississippian—Middle Pennsylvanian) with a characteristic extension of the orbits into antorbital vacuities, which formed keyhole‐shaped openings on the skull. The more derived baphetids were crocodile‐like piscivores frequently occurring in coal‐bearing lacustrine ...

Litter leaves misrepresent plant–insect interactions in standing vegetation

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution
IntroductionEvidence of insect herbivory on fossilized leaves is widely used to ascertain the evolution of feeding strategies, and trophic changes in response to phenomena such as climate change.

Evidence for Badenian local sea level changes in the proximal area of the North Croatian Basin

open access: yesGeologia Croatica, 2010
Quantitative analysis of palynomorphs, foraminifera and ostracods enabled the recognition of biotic events and the reconstruction of environmental change in the Badenian sediments from the Vrhovčak section of Mt. Samoborsko gorje (NW Croatia). During the

Digitizing collections to unlock the full potential of palynology: A case study with the Smithsonian palynology collection

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 4, Page 1116-1131, July 2026.
Large palynological collections have been built over decades and contain vital information. However, they are often difficult to access and use effectively. What is the point of having such collections if they are not fully utilizable? To solve this problem, we digitized the Smithsonian palynological collection using both light and confocal microscopy.
