Global hydrology 2015: State, trends, and directions [PDF]
Global hydrology has come a long way since the first introduction of the primitive land surface model of Manabe (1969) and the declaration of the “Emergence of Global Hydrology” by Eagleson (1986).

ABSTRACT Urban stormwater waterlogging poses significant threats to public safety and property, making scientific and effective risk management a crucial element in China's whole‐area sponge city construction. This study evaluates waterlogging hazards in Nanning's Chaoyang River Basin using a SWMM–LISFLOOD coupled model to simulate 11 design storm ...

Late Holocene palaeohydrological changes in the lower Narmada Basin, India, revealed using multiproxy analyses of the Orsang River terrace sediments. Distinct depositional phases corresponding to global climatic events were recorded. High‐magnitude floods in the Narmada River during the MWP, and within the tributary Orsang River during DACP and LIA ...

Lower Meuse Paleoflood Record Reveals NAO‐Driven Decadal to Multi‐Centennial Variability
Abstract A central challenge in assessing climate‐driven flood regimes is constructing long‐term paleoflood records with sufficient temporal resolution to identify both short‐ and long‐term variability. To address this, we performed grain‐size and X‐ray fluorescence scanning analyses on two cores from paleochannels in the Lower Meuse (the Netherlands).

Land-use changes affect hydrologic processes, but their impact on flooding remains obscure amid increasingly heavy precipitation. Instrumental records are short relative to land-use change history and inadequate for flood attribution studies.

Fluviomorphic trajectories for dryland ephemeral stream channels following extreme flash floods
Aerial photographs enable evolutionary trajectory analyses of ephemeral streams. The geometric braiding index reaches the pre‐flood state the fastest, that is, in circa 15–24 years. Junction‐node density and stream‐link area recover in 25 years after extraordinary floods, but the spatial distribution of the channel forms takes 30–35 years to recover ...

Bank erosion and erosion processes from dendrogeomorphology in southern U.S. prairie streams
Abstract Streambank erosion processes influence the amount of soil material contributed to rivers and sedimentation rates in receiving reservoirs. However, the amount of data on bank erosion rates is limited both in range and extent affecting planning for mitigation and watershed management.

Challenges in the attribution of river flood events
Drivers of river floods change through time. Global warming, and associated changes in temperature and precipitation, often overlap with changes in the hydrology, such as land‐cover change, construction of levees and large‐scale irrigation. This poses a special challenge to the attribution of flood events.
