The iron paleoredox proxies: A guide to the pitfalls, problems and proper practice [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Science, 2018
Oceanic anoxia—including euxinic settings defined by the presence of water column hydrogen sulfide (H2S)—is minor in the ocean today. Such conditions, however, were common or even dominant in the past, particularly during the Precambrian and Phanerozoic oceanic anoxic events.

Geochemical Characteristics of the Middle Devonian Dacaozi-Tanshanping Shale Strata in the Yanyuan Basin, Southwest China: Implications for Organic Matter Accumulation and Preservation

open access: yesGeofluids, 2021
How the geochemical characteristics of organic matter shale for the carbonate platform facies remain uncertain, which restricts an integrated reconstruction of the model of organic matter accumulation and preservation.

Thallium isotopes in early diagenetic pyrite – A paleoredox proxy? [PDF]

open access: yesGeochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, 2011
This paper presents the first study of Tl isotopes in early diagenetic pyrite. Measurements from two sections deposited during the Toarcian Ocean Anoxic Event (T-OAE, ∼183 Ma) are compared with data from Late Neogene (<10 Ma) pyrite samples from ODP legs 165 and 167 that were deposited in relatively oxic marine environments.

Depositional environment variations and organic matter accumulation of the first member of the Qingshankou formation in the southern Songliao Basin, China

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
The organic-rich shale in the first member of the Qingshankou Formation, which is located in the southern Songliao Basin, is regarded as a high-quality source rock in East China.

General geology and geochemistry of the Lokpanta Formation oil shale, Nigeria [PDF]

open access: yesOil Shale, 2021
A detailed geochemical and mineralogical study was carried out on the Lokpanta oil shale (OS), Nigeria. Samples from three drill cores and several outcrops were studied in order to understand OS general geochemistry and reconstruct tectonic and ...

Geochemical indices and palynology comparison used for paleoproductivity and paleoredox conditions of the Huai Hin Lat Formation in part of Loei-Petchabun Fold Belt in central Thailand [PDF]

open access: yesSongklanakarin Journal of Science and Technology (SJST), 2020
Petrography and geochemistry analyzing Dat Yai section can describe paleoproductivity and past-redox condition. Paleoproductivity proxies consisted of AOM, phytoclast, TOC, excess SiO2, Ba/Al, and P/Al as high values through sections which similarly ...

Scenarios of Deoxygenation of the Eastern Tropical North Pacific During the Past Millennium as a Window Into the Future of Oxygen Minimum Zones

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2019
Diverse studies predict global expansion of Oxygen Minimum Zones (OMZs) as a consequence of anthropogenic global warming. While the observed dissolved oxygen concentrations in many coastal regions are slowly decreasing, sediment core paleorecords often ...

Conjugated enrichments in arsenic and antimony in marine deposits used as paleoenvironmental proxies: preliminary results

open access: yesBSGF - Earth Sciences Bulletin, 2021
Two redox-sensitive metalloids, arsenic (As) and antimony (Sb), are examined here to determine what can be their help in the deciphering of past depositional conditions.
