Estuarine Processes and Their Stratigraphic Record: Paleosalinity and Sedimentation Changes in the Hudson Estuary (North America) [PDF]

open access: yesMarine Geology, 2004
Paleosalinity estimates and rates of sedimentation inferred from core samples from the Hudson estuary for the interval between 6.4 and 1.3 ka indicate a possible role for the estuarine turbidity maximum (ETM) in influencing patterns of estuarine sedimentation at centennial to millennial time scales.

Geochemical and Hydrographic Evolution of the Late Devonian Appalachian Seaway: Linking Sedimentation, Redox, and Salinity Across Time and Space

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2023
Continental interiors were flooded by epeiric seas during many intervals of the geologic past. Few modern analogs exist for these environments, however, and basic variables such as redox, salinity, and restriction are difficult to reconstruct in deep ...

Controlling Factors of Organic-Rich Lacustrine Shale in the Jurassic Dongyuemiao Member of Sichuan Basin, SW China

open access: yesGeofluids, 2023
Organic-rich continental shale, widespread in the Sichuan Basin during the deposition of the Jurassic Dongyuemiao Member (J1d), is considered the next shale hydrocarbon exploration target in southern China.

Oxygen Isotopes in Authigenic Clay Minerals: Toward Building a Reliable Salinity Proxy [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2020
Most clay minerals in sedimentary environments have traditionally been considered to be of detrital origin, but under certain conditions, authigenic clay minerals can form at low temperature through the transformation of precursor clays or as direct ...

Study on Sedimentary Environment and Organic Matter Enrichment Model of Carboniferous–Permian Marine–Continental Transitional Shale in Northern Margin of North China Basin

open access: yesEnergies
The shales of the Taiyuan Formation and Shanxi Formation in the North China Basin have good prospects for shale gas exploration and development. In this study, Well KP1 at the northern margin of the North China Basin was used as the research object for ...

PALEOSALINITY AND PALEOPRODUCTIVITY OF THE SENTOLO FORMATION, SOUTH SERAYU BASIN

open access: yesJournal of Earth and Marine Technology (JEMT)
The Sentolo Formation is one of the stratigraphic units in the Kulon Progo Mountains located in the South Serayu Basin [1] that characterized by a relatively extensive distribution of limestone.  The Sentolo Formation is known to have been deposited in marine environments ranging from the neritic to bathyal zones, which provide important ...

Enhanced deglacial carbon transport by Pacific southern-sourced intermediate and mode water [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications
Southern-sourced Antarctic Intermediate Water (AAIW) and Subantarctic Mode Water (SAMW) are currently major sinks of atmospheric CO2. During the last deglaciation, atmospheric CO2 levels increased significantly during two specific time periods, Heinrich ...
