Geochemistry of major and trace elements in sediments from the Lubei Plain, China: Constraints for paleoclimate, paleosalinity, and paleoredox environment

open access: yesJournal of Asian Earth Sciences: X, 2021
As has been greatly affected by sea-level fluctuations since the Holocene, the Lubei Plain is featured by typical marine and alluvial deposits that records abundant information on the environmental evolution.

Sea Surface Temperature and Salinity Changes in the Easternmost Mediterranean During the Pre‐Evaporitic Messinian Controlled by the Restriction at Gibraltar

open access: yesPaleoceanography and Paleoclimatology, Volume 41, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract During the latest Miocene, the Mediterranean Basin was affected by extreme paleoceanographic and paleoenvironmental changes culminating with evaporite (gypsum and halite) formation during the Messinian Salinity Crisis (MSC: 5.97–5.33 Ma).

Climate and catchment influence the postglacial succession of three lakes in south‐central Baffin Island (Nunavut), Canada

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, Volume 40, Issue 8, Page 1377-1391, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Understanding postglacial ontogeny in Arctic lakes helps contextualize modern‐day climatic change. We used sediment cores to characterize ecological succession in three south‐central Baffin Island lakes from deglaciation (c. 7–8k cal a BP) to present.

Methyltrimethyltridecylchromans (MTTCs) in Mature Crude Oils: Implications for Oil Family Classification and Palaeoenvironmental Diagnosis

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Methyltrimethyltridecylchromans (MTTCs), a class of oxygen-containing aromatic derivatives, have been used as indicators of paleosalinity in source rocks and crude oils.

Paleoenvironmental fluctuations across the Jurassic–Cretaceous boundary from the Scotian margin, Canada [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Two wells, Thebaud C-74 and South Desbarres O-76 were investigated to evaluate paleoenvironmental changes during the Jurassic/Cretaceous boundary on the Scotian margin, offshore Nova Scotia. A multi-technique approach using several proxies of paleoredox,

Freshwater Sources in the Global Ocean Through Salinity‐δ18O Relationships: A Machine Learning Solution to a Water Mass Problem

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 130, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract Changes in the hydrological cycle can affect ocean circulation and ventilation. Freshwater enters the ocean as meteoric water (MW; precipitation, river runoff, and glacial discharge) and sea ice meltwater (SIM). These inputs are traced using seawater salinity and stable oxygen isotopes in seawater, δ18O ${\delta }^{18}\mathrm{O}$.
