Paleostress analysis around southern area of Okinawa-jima, Central Ryukyu, Japan

open access: yesPaleostress analysis around southern area of Okinawa-jima, Central Ryukyu, Japan
Meso-scale faults are investigated for reconstruction of paleostress recorded in the Shimajiri Group during the upper Miocene to lower Pleistocene exposed around southern region of Okinawa-jima (island). Stress field was estimated by means of the stress inversion method.

Kinematic development and paleostress analysis of the Denizli Basin (Western Turkey): implications of spatial variation of relative paleostress magnitudes and orientations

open access: yesJournal of Asian Earth Sciences, 2006
Paleostress orientations and relative paleostress magnitudes (stress ratios), determined by using the reduced stress concept, are used to improve the understanding of the kinematic characteristics of the Denizli Basin. Two different dominant extension directions were determined using fault-slip data and travertine fissure orientations.

Paleostress analysis of Cenozoic faulting in the Kraishte area, SW Bulgaria

open access: yesJournal of Structural Geology, 2011
Abstract Paleostress calculations from fault planes in Paleogene sediments and in the underlying basement were used to determine the orientation and the chronology of the principal stresses during the Cenozoic tectonic evolution of the Kraishte area (southwest Bulgaria). The results show that middle Eocene–early Oligocene WSW–ENE extension led to the

Combined kinematic and paleostress analysis of fault-slip data: The Multiple-slip method

Journal of Structural Geology, 2008
We describe the Multiple-slip method for the construction of the displacement gradient tensor, which describes the faulting-related deformation of the region. Three elements must be known for each fault: (1) the fault plane orientation, (2) the slip direction, and (3) the number of parallel faults in the same size range.

Alpine paleostress reconstruction and active faulting in Western Iberia [PDF]

open access: yesOpen Geosciences, 2010
The study of intraplate tectonics is crucial for understanding the deformation within plates, far from active plate boundaries and associated stress transmission to the plate interiors.

Bedding tilt test for paleostress analysis

Journal of Structural Geology, 2005
It is difficult to apply stress inversion to fault-slip data obtained from highly tilted sedimentary layers, especially in areas where criteria for fault sorting are not available at outcrops. This paper shows that a bedding tilt test similar to that used in paleomagnetism allows paleostresses to be inferred.
