Palindromes in chromosomes

Journal of Molecular Biology, 1974
Abstract Eukaryotic DNA fragments that are totally denatured by alkali swiftly re-form duplex regions that are several hundred up to several thousand nucleotide pairs in length. A combination of sedimentation and electron microscopic studies demonstrate that they arise by the folding-back of a single linear chain, and not from cross-linking between ...

Palindromes in Proteins

Journal of Protein Chemistry, 2003
Palindromes in DNA consist of nucleotides sequences that read the same from the 5'-end to the 3'-end, and its double helix is related by twofold axis. They occur in genomes of all organisms and have various functions. For example, restriction enzymes often recognize palindromic sequences of DNA.

Of palindromes and peptides

Human Genetics, 1992
On the average, 30% of the residues in a protein are members of peptidic palindromes, tripeptidic and longer. This percentage may go up to 50% in histones and certain other DNA binding proteins. The longest peptidic palindrome encountered thus far was 14 residues in length.

Palindromic Rheumatism

Southern Medical Journal, 2011
We present the case of a 56-year-old woman with a one-month history of recurrent, migratory oligoarthritis. Laboratory tests were normal except for positive antinuclear antibody (ANA) titers. Imaging studies were normal. Palindromic rheumatism (PR) was considered as a diagnosis.

Palindromes in Sturmian Words [PDF]

open access: possible, 2005
We study some structural and combinatorial properties of Sturmian palindromes, i.e., palindromic finite factors of Sturmian words. In particular, we give a formula which permits to compute in an exact way the number of Sturmian palindromes of any length. Moreover, an interesting characterization of Sturmian palindromes is obtained.
