Phytoplasma Diseases of Palms [PDF]
Palms are native to tropical and subtropical areas of the world and con-tribute to the ecology and economy of many countries. Phytoplasmas which are cell-wall-less prokaryotes are associated with diseases of significant economic importance to palms worldwide.

The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1978An ecological survey of triatomines in the sylvan ecosystem of the Canal Zone and selected sites in Panama disclosed for the first time a close association of Rhodnius pullescens and Triatoma dimidiata, the two most important vector species of Chagas' disease in Panama, with a single species of a widely distributed palm tree, Scheelea zonensis.

Abstract Thirty two diseases and disorders affecting the oil palm in Africa, Southeast Asia and South America are described with their distribution, economic importance, etiology and control. Of these, nine diseases are considered to be of major economic importance, 19 are of minor importance, and four are due to nutrient deficiencies.
