Modification and expansion of existing body condition scoring scales for rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) improves inter‐rater reliability when used by experienced raters

open access: yesVeterinary Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Reliable body condition scoring in rabbits is essential in managing healthy bodyweight. The commonly used Rabbit size‐o‐meter (RSOM) has shown poor inter‐rater reliability, particularly among inexperienced raters. This study aimed to develop a reliable, reproducible body condition scoring scale for companion rabbits across breeds ...

Prenatal Alcohol Exposure and Dysmorphic Features in Adults at Midlife

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, Volume 50, Issue 7, July 2026.
Dysmorphological facial features in individuals with prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE), including those with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD), persist into midlife. Controlling for age, sex, and race/ethnicity, PAE/FASD predicted measures of palpebral fissures, the philtrum, and the upper lip, among other features.

Passive Shape‐Adaptive Fluidic Interface for Enhanced Skin‐Sensor Coupling in Wearable Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 11, Issue 11, 5 June 2026.
This study presents a passive fluidic interface for wearable biosensors that adapts to static and dynamic body shape changes to maintain consistent skin contact. Flexible, fluid‐filled pouches redistribute pressure from high‐load areas to regions requiring improved contact, enhancing signal quality and comfort in a compact, low‐energy design for ...

Optimizing Carbon Sources in Biofloc Technology for Sustainable Aquaculture: A Meta‐Analytical Review

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 6, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Aquaculture intensification is increasingly constrained by high water demand, nutrient‐rich effluents and disease risk, increasing interest in biofloc technology (BFT) as a waste‐recycling, low‐exchange production model. However, BFT performance depends strongly on the carbon source used to adjust the carbon‐to‐nitrogen (C/N) ratio and ...

Homo luzonensis and the role of homoplasy in the morphology of hominin insular species

open access: yesCladistics, Volume 42, Issue 3, Page 286-316, June 2026.
Abstract Homo luzonensis lived during the upper Pleistocene in the northern Philippines, east of the Wallace line. The few specimens attributed to this species show a mosaic of plesiomorphies for the genus Homo and apomorphies found in upper Pleistocene Homo species.

Carrier screening in the reproductive setting—Are there medical implications for the heterozygote?—A guide for clinicians

open access: yesPregnancy, Volume 2, Issue 3, May 2026.
Abstract Carrier screening for genetic conditions performed preconception or during pregnancy allows identification of fetal risk for inherited autosomal recessive and X‐linked conditions. The goal is to identify at‐risk patients/couples and offer them reproductive options such as preimplantation genetic diagnosis, prenatal testing, or targeted newborn

Machine‐learning classification of motor unit types in the adult mouse

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 604, Issue 10, Page 3984-4008, 15 May 2026.
Abstract figure legend The goal of this study was to build an algorithm for machine‐learning classification of motor unit (MU) physiological type in the adult mouse. We made intracellular recordings of triceps surae (TS) motoneurons in anaesthetized adult mice and recorded MU isometric force and electromyographic (EMG) activity.

Population and herbarium genomics provide a comprehensive framework for a revision of Microcoleus (Cyanobacteria)

open access: yesJournal of Phycology, Volume 62, Issue 2, Page 454-476, April 2026.
Abstract Microcoleus is a cosmopolitan, filamentous cyanobacterium and a key component of biological soil crusts—complex microbial communities essential for primary production in diverse terrestrial environments. Here, we performed a taxonomic revision of several species of Microcoleus based on a large population genomic dataset.

New Naturalized Flowering Plant Records for the Flora of Niue

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Botany, Volume 64, Issue 1, March 2026.
Field surveys of the flora of Niue have identified ten new records of naturalized plants and clarification of the status of an earlier record. Four new records are not known to have been cultivated in Niue, with three the herbs Cardamine flexuosa With., Dentella repens (L.) J.R.Forst. & G.Forst., and Strobilanthes reptans (G.Forst.)
