Lightweight masonry block from oil palm kernel shell

Construction and Building Materials, 2014
A large amount of waste produced in the processing of palm oil is one of the main contributors to the environmental problem. This paper presents an experimental study on the development of the shellcrete masonry block that made of oil palm kernel. The study was focused on the physical, compressive strength and flexural strength of shellcrete.

Palm kernel shell as fuel for burning bricks

Building Research & Information, 1997
The use of an agricultural waste product, palm kernel shell, as a fuel for firing bricks is explored as a means of reducing environmental degradation and depletion of scarce firewood in Ghana. A simple but efficient methodology of clamp firing bricks using the new fuel is developed and tested.

Development of Pulverized Palm Kernel Shells Based Particleboard

International Journal of Material and Mechanical Engineering, 2014
The study evaluated the performance characteristic of pulverised Palm Kernel Shell (PKS)-based particleboard. The pulverised palm kernel shell was compounded with other ingredients (such as adhesive, saw dust) in the composite development phase. Standard wood-based particleboard and pulverized PKS-wood based particleboard were produced following ...

Carbon Doped Iron Ore Using Palm Kernel Shell

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
This paper pertains to the reduction process of local low grade iron ore using palm kernel shell (PKS). It is well known that low grade iron ores contain high amount of gangue minerals and combined water. Biomass waste (aka agro-residues) from the palm oil industry is an attractive alternative fuel to replace coal as the source of energy in mineral ...

Palm Kernel Shell as Potential Fuel for Syngas Production

2020
This study investigated the elemental content, proximate analysis, morphological nature, calorific value and ultimate analysis of the Elaeis guineensis palm kernel shell (PKS), to determine its suitability for use in syngas generation. The elemental content was studied using the X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF) analysis, and the presence of ...

Suitability of Shale Treated with Palm Kernel Shell Ash and Pulverized Palm Kernel Shell As Landfill Liners at Nguzu Edda, Southeastern Nigeria

The Journal of Solid Waste Technology and Management, 2021
Wastes are mostly disposed of in landfills, which pose threat to soil and groundwater as a result of percolation of leachate. Therefore, barrier soils are required for the lining of a landfill to prevent seepage of leachate into the surrounding groundwater system.

Utilization of Oil Palm Fiber and Palm Kernel Shell in Various Applications

2017
The agro-industrial sector in Malaysia generates a significant amount of biomass solid wastes, particularly from palm oil mills which produce enormous amount of biomass that includes empty fruit bunches (EFB), palm kernel shells (PKS), oil palm fibers (OPF), and palm oil mill effluents (POME).

Utilization of Modified Palm Kernel Shell for Biocomposites Production

Key Engineering Materials, 2016
A comprehensive study was carried out to assess the effectiveness of untreated and treated palm kernel shell (PKS) as filler into the polypropylene (PP) matrix at different filler loading (5 wt%, 10wt%, 15wt%, 20wt%, and 25wt%) to form a biocomposite material.

Hydrogen production from palm kernel shell

2019
The hydrogen production process from palm kernel shell (PKS) is modeled and simulated by a steady-state gasification system using Aspen PLUS®. The kinetic parameters of the gasification are determined by employing thermogravimetric analysis (TG/DTG) using two gasifying agents (CO2 and steam) and applying three semi-empirical kinetic models to interpret

Pyrolysis of palm kernel shell with internal recycling of heavy oil

Bioresource Technology, 2019
This paper investigated pyrolysis of palm kernel shell in a proposed reactor, which is characterized by internal recycling of heavy oil between a heavy oil sorption zone and pyrolysis zone. The internal recycling of heavy oil favors conversion of heavy oil to char, gas, and light oil.
