Diesel Combustion Characteristics of Coconut Oil and Palm Oil Biodiesels

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2006
<div class="htmlview paragraph">In order to determine the usefulness of coconut and palm oil biodiesels as alternative diesel fuel, the fuel properties, the combustion characteristics and the exhaust emissions were investigated. Therefore, the methyl esters of coconut, palm and rapeseed oils (CME, PME and RME) and the ethyl ester of palm and ...

Palm oil and palm kernel oil as raw materials for basic oleochemicals and biodiesel

European Journal of Lipid Science and Technology, 2007
AbstractThe palm oil‐ and palm kernel oil‐producing countries in South East Asia are becoming the dominant producers of fatty acids and fatty alcohols. The large and very efficient palm oil plantations are giving the local producers of basic oleochemicals a decisive competitive advantage.

Basic properties of palm oil biodiesel–diesel blends

Fuel, 2008
Abstract The basic properties of several palm oil biodiesel–diesel fuel blends were measured according to the corresponding ASTM standards. In order to predict these properties, mixing rules are evaluated as a function of the volume fraction of biodiesel in the blend.

Enhanced enzymatic transesterification of palm oil to biodiesel

Biochemical Engineering Journal, 2011
Abstract Inefficient reaction is one of the drawbacks for the enzymatic production of biodiesel (BD). A method for enhanced Novozym 435-catalyzed transesterification of palm oil (PO) to BD using a mixture of methanol and methyl acetate (MA) as acyl acceptors has been developed. BD yield using methanol–MA mixture reached 95–96% after 8 h at a methanol

Biodiesel production from soapstock of palm oil refining

IREC2015 The Sixth International Renewable Energy Congress, 2015
The production of fatty acid ethyl esters from palm oil soapstock, a by-product of vegetable oil refining, was conducted. The process involved alkaline hydrolysis of all lipid-linked fatty acid ester bonds with sodium hydroxide solution (50 %) concentration followed by drying to about 8.5 wt% of water content.

Biodiesel production from oil palm

2020
This article provides an overview of the oil palm culture, covering succinctly the palm oil production, being derived biodiesel in the oil substitution, especially in European countries. It was possible to point out that the indiscriminate use of palm oil may cause imbalance in biodiversity and the biosphere in general. We also highlight in the Brazil,

Biodiesel production from palm oil via heterogeneous transesterification

Biomass and Bioenergy, 2009
Abstract This paper presents the study of the transesterification of palm oil via heterogeneous process using montmorillonite KSF as heterogeneous catalyst. This study was carried out using a design of experiment (DOE), specifically response surface methodology (RSM) based on four-variable central composite design (CCD) with α (alpha) = 2.

Life Cycle Assessment of Biodiesel from Palm Oil

2013
Though the energy balance for the cultivation of oil palm biomass for biodiesel production is positive, current debate has been raised on its environmental sustainability due to the high consumption of fossil fuel, fertilizer, and pesticides. This chapter employs the well-to-wheel variant of life cycle analysis (LCA) to assess the various potential ...

Palm oil: the biodiesel challenge [PDF]

open access: possible
Palm oil prices rose again in 2024, driven by a poor harvest in the main producer, Indonesia, and by the decline in export volumes available in the archipelago due to the priority given to domestic biodiesel production. With no more land available and yields levelling off, Indonesia, like Malaysia, the second largest producer and exporter of palm oil ...

Oil palm biodiesel in the far east

2014
Palm oil increasingly is used as feedstock for biodiesel production, although volumes remain much smaller than those for other major oil crops (soybean, rapeseed). The main producers of palm oil are Indonesia and Malaysia. This chapter discusses the production of palm oil in these countries, and for conciseness, we refer to them as the Far East ...
