Neutrino Oscillation Experiments at Nuclear Reactors [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
In this paper I give an overview of the status of neutrino oscillation experiments performed using nuclear reactors as sources of neutrinos. I review the present generation of experiments (Chooz and Palo Verde) with baselines of about 1 km as well as the

Neutron production by cosmic-ray muons at shallow depth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The yield of neutrons produced by cosmic ray muons at a shallow depth of 32 meters of water equivalent has been measured. The Palo Verde neutrino detector, containing 11.3 tons of Gd loaded liquid scintillator and 3.5 tons of acrylic served as a target ...

Oxidative evaluation of oils mixture of legumes of the Sonoran Desert with maize and soy oils during the storage

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 2001
During storage, oils from seeds of wild legumes of the Sonoran Desert have shown greater stability than oils derived from conventional sources. In this work, oxidation process was evaluated during the storage (122 day) of mixtures of oils: Mezquite ...

HERRAMIENTAS PROTEÓMICAS Y BIOINFORMÁTICAS REVELAN LA COMPOSICIÓN ALERGÉNICA DEL POLEN DE PARKINSONIA MICROPHYLLA

open access: yesAvances en Ciencias e Ingeniería, 2022
Palo Verde (Parkinsonia microphylla) is a common tree in the deserts of northwestern Mexico and the southwestern United States. Although an insect pollenated tree, it can cause allergy because of the huge volume of flowers that fall to ground, dry, and ...

Effects of thickness on the spin susceptibility of the 2D electron gas

open access: yes, 2004
Using available quantum Monte Carlo predictions for a strictly 2D electron gas, we have estimated the spin susceptibility of electrons in actual devices taking into account the effect of the finite transverse thickness and finding a very good agreement ...

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.
