Use of Extensometers at Palo Verde Nuclear Station

Journal of the Construction Division, 1981
The use of rod-type multiple-position extensometers (strainmeters) was made at a nuclear power plant site in southern Arizona. The instruments were installed at various depths and prior to excavations for the structures within the powerblock. Deformations were monitored during excavation for soil rebound due to release of overburden stresses and later ...

The Palo Verde reactor neutrino oscillation experiment

Nuclear Physics B - Proceedings Supplements, 1999
Abstract Our collaboration is operating a segmented scintillation detector, containing 11.3 tons of 0.1% Gd loaded liquid scintillator, at 750, 888 and 889 m distance from three nuclear power reactors. Goal of the experiment is to search for neutrino oscillations in disappearance mode.

Palos Verdes

Bluff Cove in Palos Verdes had been an important place for “Doc” Ball ever since he was a child. He formalized his relationship in 1935 when he co-founded the Palos Verdes Surfing Club. Bluff Cove soon represented the club’s collective vision of recreating their dream of Waikīkī.

Results from the Palo Verde neutrino experiment

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2000
I report on the initial results from a measurement of the anti-neutrino flux and spectrum from the three reactors of the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station using a segmented gadolinium-loaded scintillation detector at a distance of about 800 m. We find that the anti-neutrino flux agrees with that predicted in the absence of oscillations, excluding ...

Bruchid Bettles and Seed Packaging by Palo Verde

Ecology, 1977
Cercidium floridum pods usually contain one or two seeds. If pods contained three or more seeds, pod biomass would be reduced by 19% and that energy could be diverted into seeds. Intrinsic factors do not explain the wasteful packaging; interactions at a node divert energy into several one— or two—seeded ponds rather than one large pod.
