Palpebral Fissure Changes in Early Childhood

Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus, 2001
ABSTRACTPurpose: To describe palpebral fissure changes during early childhood. Methods: Digital imaging was used to analyze the monocular palpebral fissure images of 185 children and 35 adults. Six variables were quantified for each eye: the distance between the pupil center and the upper and lower eyelid margin, the palpebral fissure area, and the ...

Palpebral fissure size in newborn infants

The Journal of Pediatrics, 1978
1N THE SPECTRUM of effects of maternal alcohol consumption on the developing embryo and fetus, short palpebral fissures have been the most consistent physical feature noted. Short palpebral fissures were present in 35 of 38 patients with the fetal alcohol syndrome studied by Hanson et aP and are one of the most common abnormal features noted in ...

Palpebral Fissure Responses to Topical Adrenergic Drugs

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1991
We measured the magnitude and time course of the increase in palpebral fissure width in ten normal volunteers in response to direct-acting (2.5% phenylephrine, 1% apraclonidine) and indirect-acting (10% cocaine, 1% hydroxyamphetamine) topical adrenergic drugs given in one eye.

Lengthening and Shortening the Palpebral Fissure

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1971
OF THE VARIOUS canthoplasties for lengthening the palpebral fissure, those of von Ammon, 1 Agnew, 2 and Blair 3 all require sectioning of the lateral canthal ligament to give the necessary extension. Blaskovics 4 simply resected a triangle of skin at the lateral canthus and pulled the conjunctiva out to cover the bared area.

Prevalence of Palpebral Fissure Asymmetry in White Persons

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1995
Because palpebral fissure asymmetry in horizontal gaze is reportedly common in otherwise normal persons, we determined the prevalence of physiologic palpebral fissure asymmetry for primary and horizontal gazes. We measured the palpebral fissure height of both eyes of 88 healthy white subjects. Measurements were obtained with high-resolution videography,

Palpebral fissure morphology segmentation measurement using image processing

IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Magazine, 2000
A semi-automated method for detecting eyelid-related pathologies is presented. The authors describe a novel approach for extracting significant features of the palpebral contour of the human eye in order to assist eyelid-related pathologic diagnosis. Image-processing techniques are used to better perform palpebral morphology analysis and quantification.

The palpebral fissure in Somalia

Journal of Human Evolution, 1979
Abstract The morphology of the palpebral fissure in Somalia is studied in two samples of the population: 1236 adults and 471 school children. In both groups the presence of a slight Mongolian fold and obliquity of the rima was noted, which, by narrowing the fissure, makes the eye more suited to the climate of the country. There is an interdependence
