PALSAR-2 polarimetric image mosaic and its application to land cover monitoring
2017 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2017Land cover is an important earth observation parameter for understanding the Earth's ecosystem. Compared with optical sensors, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) enables more rapid land cover monitoring with its all-weather, day-and-night imaging capability.

Peatland Carbon Emissions Estimates by ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 Interferometry in Borneo
IGARSS 2019 - 2019 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2019Carbon emissions from peatland significantly affect climate change. We adopted SAR interferometry technique in order to estimate the amount of carbon emissions from peatland receiving development pressure in Borneo. As a result, ground subsidence of 15.0 cm yr-1 on average and 31.0 cm yr-1 at maximum were observed.

Optimal use of polarimetric signature on PALSAR-2 data for land cover classification
2017 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2017SAR data is playing key role in monitoring, the current status or change in, the land cover. For unsupervised SAR image classification, polarization signatures can play a significant role. Since it is difficult to obtain specific polarization signature of real land cover, it is customary to represent them with standard canonical structures polarization

PALSAR-2 polarimetric performance and the simulation study using the PI-SAR-L2
2013 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium - IGARSS, 2013This paper describes the performance, calibration method, and observation scenarios for the ALOS-2/PALSAR-2 polarimetry mode. It also describes simulation studies conducted using data from Pi-SAR-L2, JAXA's L-band airborne SAR, for calibration and application studies.

Evaluation of compact polarimetry and along track interferometry as experimental mode of PALSAR-2
2015 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2015Advanced Land Observing Satellite-2 (ALOS-2) is a spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) system, developed by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation under contract to Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). The SAR system named Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar-2(PALSAR-2) is installed to ALOS-2.

A critical analysis of polarimetrie signatures on PALSAR 2 data for land cover classification
2016 11th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS), 2016In this paper, polarization signatures are extracted for utilization of the fully polarimetrie L-band ALOS-PALSAR 2 data. These signatures are extracted for different land cover classes (i.e., urban, water, short vegetation, tall vegetation and bare soil).

Monitoring MT. Shinnmoe’s Crater Activity Using the Timeseries Palsar-2 Interferometry
IGARSS 2019 - 2019 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2019We extracted the surface deformation of Mt. Shinnmoe-dake using the INSAR analysis of the time series PALSAR-2 data. Since the eruption in Oct. 2017, Mt. Shinmoedake volcano has been continuing the eruption activities, and showing the fluctuations in the crater from February 2017 to February 2018.

Flood Detection in Built-up Area Using Interferometric SAR Data by Palsar-2
IGARSS 2019 - 2019 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2019Rapid and all-weather detection of flood areas is needed for monitoring and mitigating flood disasters. In this paper, we investigated flood area detection in built-up area using PALSAR-2 data acquired during the 2015 heavy rainfall disaster in the Kanto and Tohoku areas, Japan.
