Generation of the first PALSAR-2 global mosaic 2014/2015 and change detection between 2007 and 2015 using the PALSAR and PALSAR-2

2016 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2016
Decreasing the carbon emission from the deforestation and forest degradation is one of the issues that the humans need to tag for sustaining the Earth. Monitoring the forest from the space is the recent achievements that the space agencies contribute. Measuring the forest cover change is being conducted by using the high resolution optical and/or SAR ...

Palsar-2 Compact Assessment and Calibration

IGARSS 2019 - 2019 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2019
ALOS2-PALSAR2, which was launched on the 24th of May 2014, is equipped with an experimental Compact mode (CP) ([1], [2]), that can collect CP images at various incidence angles (H2-1 to H2-9, from 18° to 44°). PALSAR2-CP transmits a circular polarization and measures the received signal at the horizontal and vertical antenna polarization.

PALSAR calibration and validation - 2005 update

Proceedings. 2005 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2005. IGARSS '05., 2005
This paper describes the updated status of the PALSAR CAL/VAL and scientific activity of 2005, which is being conducted as a part of the JAXA's ALOS science program. The updated information includes 1) Detailed schedule of the initial calibration phase, 2) Distribution of the calibration targets, 3) Calibration strategy (antenna pattern, polarimetric ...

Deformation monitoring using the ALOS/PALSAR

2009 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2009
Because of the higher interferometric coherence, ALOS/PALSAR data are often used for monitoring the deformation caused by the disaster events (i.e., earthquakes, volcanoes, land subsidence by water and oil pumping, land slide, etc) using the interferometric data analysis.

PALSAR CALVAL summary and update 2007

2007 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2007
This paper summarizes the geometric and radiometric calibration results of the PALSAR achieved during the ALOS initial calibration phase, which covers five months between May 16 2006 and October 23, 2006, and the half-year of the operational phase. All the PALSAR modes, FBS (fine beam single), FBD (Fine beam dual), SCANSAR, DSN (band limited SAR), and ...

PALSAR-2 launch and early orbit status

2014 IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2014
The Advanced Land Observing Satellite-2 (ALOS-2) is the RADAR satellite which is carrying the state-of-the-art L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) called PALSAR-2 (Phased Array type L-band SAR-2) which succeeds to the PALSAR mounted on ALOS “Daichi”.

Detection of wind fields from PALSAR-2

2016 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2016
The relationship between ocean wind vectors and L-band normalized radar cross sections (NRCS) is examined to modify the L-band geophysical model function (GMF) using the Phased-Array L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar 2 (PALSAR-2) and scatterometer wind data.

Flood disaster monitoring with ALOS/PALSAR observation

2009 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2009
We investigate an effective algorithm to identify flood-inundated area with ALOS/PALSAR observations. Radar cross section from water surface is generally smaller than that from ground surface without water, which derives larger differences of radar cross section in flood-inundated area because there is no water in this area before disaster.

Pol-InSAR Results from ALOS-PalSAR

2007 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2007
The launch of JAXA's ALOS in January 2006 provides - for the fist time since the SIR-C/X-SAR mission's in the 80's - the opportunity to acquire Pol-InSAR data from space. Indeed, PalSAR (i.e. the SAR instrument onboard of ALOS) is able to operate in a quad-pol mode - declared by JAXA as an "experimental mode" - that allows the acquisition of Pol-InSAR ...
