Current Approach to Obstetric Brachial Plexus Palsy

open access: yesMedicine Science, 2015
Obstetrical brachial plexus palsy (BPP) is defined a flaccid paresis caused by damage of brachial plexus before or during delivery. Beyond 80-90% of patients may develop spontaneous remission; in 5-25% may develop lifelong disability. Recovery in 2 weeks

Personalizing User Engagement Dynamics in a Non-Verbal Communication Game for Cerebral Palsy [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Children and adults with cerebral palsy (CP) can have involuntary upper limb movements as a consequence of the symptoms that characterize their motor disability, leading to difficulties in communicating with caretakers and peers. We describe how a socially assistive robot may help individuals with CP to practice non-verbal communicative gestures using ...

Combination Therapy With Vigabatrin and Prednisolone Versus Vigabatrin Alone for Infantile Spasms

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The study evaluated the effectiveness of combination therapy with vigabatrin and prednisolone versus vigabatrin alone for treating infantile epileptic spasms syndrome (IESS). Methods This single‐center, single‐blind, randomized trial enrolled infants aged 2–14 months with new‐onset IESS, randomly assigned them (1:1) to receive either

Artificial Neural Network as a Tool to Predict Facial Nerve Palsy in Parotid Gland Surgery for Benign Tumors

open access: yesMedical Sciences, 2020
(1) Background: Despite the increasing use of intraoperative facial nerve monitoring during parotid gland surgery or the improvement in the preoperative radiological assessment, facial nerve injury (FNI) continues to be the most feared complication; (2 ...

Cerebral Palsy Prediction with Frequency Attention Informed Graph Convolutional Networks [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Early diagnosis and intervention are clinically considered the paramount part of treating cerebral palsy (CP), so it is essential to design an efficient and interpretable automatic prediction system for CP. We highlight a significant difference between CP infants' frequency of human movement and that of the healthy group, which improves prediction ...

Unusual cause of brachial palsy with diaphragmatic palsy [PDF]

open access: yesBMJ Case Reports, 2018
We report a preterm neonate born with respiratory distress. The neonate was found to have diaphragmatic palsy and brachial palsy. The neonate was born by caesarean section and there was no history of birth trauma. On examination, there was bilateral congenital talipes equinovarus and a scar was present on the forearm.
