Autogenic Microbial Genesis of Middle Miocene Palustrine Ooids; Nullarbor Plain, Australia

Abstract Miocene palustrine ooids located in the Nullarbor Plain, southern Australia, illustrate the importance of microbes and soil processes in the formation of these spherically laminated grains in pedogenic settings. These particles are composed of dense minimicrite and include a wide assortment of microbially produced structures.

A new species of palustrine Eleutherodactylus (Anura: Leptodactylidae) from Puerto Rico

We describe adult morphology, advertisement call, and natural history diagnostic of a new species of Eleutherodactylus from a fresh water (palustrine) herbaceous wetland of northern coastal Puerto Rico. The new species is apparently the smallest Puerto Rican Eleutherodactylus and is morphologically most similar to E.

The stereoselective synthesis of (-)-methyl palustramate, a possible intermediate for the synthesis of (+)-palustrine, is described. The key step of the synthesis is a conformationally restricted Claisen rearrangement to afford the highly functionalized 1-benzylpipecolic ester 10.
