Object-based attention in chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes)

open access: yesVision Research, 2010
We conducted three experiments to investigate how object-based components contribute to the attentional processes of chimpanzees and to examine how such processes operate with regard to perceptually structured objects. In Experiment 1, chimpanzees responded to a spatial cueing task that required them to touch a target appearing at either end of two ...

Critical insights into the potential risks of antipsychotic drugs to fish, including through effects on behaviour

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Antipsychotic drugs (APDs) are a diverse class of neuroactive pharmaceuticals increasingly detected in surface and ground waters globally. Some APDs are classified as posing a high environmental risk, due, in part, to their tendency to bioaccumulate in wildlife, including fish.

Look past the cooperative eye hypothesis: reconsidering the evolution of human eye appearance

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The external appearance of the human eye has been prominently linked to the evolution of complex sociocognitive functions in our species. The cooperative eye hypothesis (CEH) proposes that human eyeballs, with their weakly expressed conjunctival and scleral pigmentation, are uniquely conspicuous and evolved under selective pressures to behave ...

A longitudinal assessment of vocabulary retention in symbol-competent chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes).

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
A number of studies from the 1960s to 1990s assessed the symbolic competence of great apes and other animals. These studies provided varying forms of evidence that some species were capable of symbolically representing their worlds, both through ...

Real‐World Data Analysis of Genomic Alterations Detected by a Dual DNA–RNA Comprehensive Genomic Profiling Test

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
This study analyzed 1356 cases using GenMineTOP, Japan's first dual DNA–RNA CGP test, and identified oncogenic alterations in 91.5% of cases. The RNA panel detected 105 fusion events, including 11 NTRK fusions. Furthermore, the analysis clarified the independent effects of genomic abnormalities and cancer type on RNA expression, providing valuable ...

Infantile Cerebellar‐Retinal Degeneration Associated With Novel ACO2 Variants: Clinical Features and Insights From a Drosophila Model

open access: yesClinical Genetics, EarlyView.
Our Translational Loop integrates patient genetic data with Drosophila models to study disease mechanisms. We identified ACO2 variants in a patient linked to ICRD and show that our animal model mirrors key aspects of the disease. These insights help pinpoint therapeutic targets, advancing research toward treatments for rare genetic disorders.
