AbstractThe character of arthritis has not received the same attention in Pan paniscus as it has in P. troglodytes. Reactive arthritis (a form of spondyloarthropathy) in the latter has been considered to be either a sexually transmitted or an infectious‐agent diarrhea‐related disorder. The unique sexual promiscuity of P.

Molar development in common chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes)
Journal of Human Evolution, 2007Numerous studies have reported on enamel and dentine development in hominoid molars, although little is known about intraspecific incremental feature variation. Furthermore, a recent histological study suggested that there is little or no time between age at chimpanzee crown completion and age at molar eruption, which is unlikely given that root growth

Imitation in neonatal chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes)
Developmental Science, 2004AbstractThis paper provides evidence for imitative abilities in neonatal chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes), our closest relatives. Two chimpanzees were reared from birth by their biological mothers. At less than 7 days of age the chimpanzees could discriminate between, and imitate, human facial gestures (tongue protrusion and mouth opening).

Conjugate lateral eye movements in Pan troglodytes
Neuropsychologia, 1978Abstract The direction of conjugate lateral eye movements was assessed in four juvenile and four adolescent chimpanzees ( Pan troglodytes ). A significant bias in favor of left eye movements was found in the two older adolescents. Neither the two younger adolescents nor the four juveniles revealed a significant asymmetry in the direction of conjugate

Recognition of pictorial representations by chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes)
Animal Cognition, 2006In this study, I investigated chimpanzees' ability to recognize pictorial representations. Four adults and three juvenile chimpanzees were trained to choose images of photographs of flowers among 12 items belonging to four categories on a touch-sensitive monitor.

Perinatal telencephalic leucoencephalopathy in chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes)
Acta Neuropathologica, 1973Parenchymal deposits with the histochemical characteristics of acid glycosaminoglycans were discovered in the brains of 12 chimpanzees ranging from 6 months gestational age to 17 months post partum. Similar deposits were not seen in the brains of one fetus of approximately 3 1/2 month gestational age or in the brains of three animals that were 10 or ...
