Detecting Blunt Pancreatic Injuries
Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery, 2002Pancreatic injury after blunt abdominal trauma is exceedingly uncommon, occurring in less than 5% of major abdominal injuries. When blunt pancreatic injury does occur, however, it is notoriously difficult to identify. The use of serum amylase has been advocated in the diagnosis of such injury, yet it is neither sensitive nor specific.

Alcohol-induced pancreatic injury
Best Practice & Research Clinical Gastroenterology, 2003Alcoholic pancreatitis is a major complication of alcohol abuse. Until recently, it was generally accepted that alcoholic pancreatitis was a chronic disease from the outset. However, evidence is now emerging in support of the 'necrosis-fibrosis' hypothesis that alcoholic pancreatitis begins as an acute process and that repeated episodes of acute injury
