Nutrition and Pancreaticoduodenectomy
Nutrition in Clinical Practice, 2010Pancreaticoduodenectomy (Whipple) is the surgical procedure of choice for curative resection of pancreatic head, periampullary, and distal bile duct cancers. This procedure involves removal of the pancreatic head, duodenum, distal common bile duct, and sometimes the pylorus and gastric antrum.

Age is Not a Contraindication to Pancreaticoduodenectomy
The American Surgeon, 2000The incidence of pancreatic cancer has increased threefold over the last 40 years with the greatest rate of growth occurring in the elderly. In the past it was suggested that elderly patients tolerated pancreaticoduodenectomy less well than younger patients with higher mortality rates. This single-institution experience examines the question of whether

Few major abdominal operations have undergone the extent of dramatic change as that associated with pancreaticoduodenectomy in the last 20 years. The precipitous drop in the mortality rate most likely has a multifaceted explanation. Possibilities include the concentration of the operations at specialized centers, the improvement in the quality of ...

PANCREATICODUODENECTOMY FOR TRAUMA
The Journal of Trauma: Injury, Infection, and Critical Care, 1983Over a 6 year period, 10 patients underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy for trauma. This was reserved for proximal pancreatic duct or ampulla injuries at locations that precluded reconstruction and combined devascularization injuries of the pancreas and duodenum. This was thought to be the most conservative indication for the procedure.

Pancreaticoduodenectomy for traumatic lesions
The American Journal of Surgery, 1969Simultaneous injury of the duodenum and head of the pancreas and severe injury to either structure alone, are attended by high morbidity and mortality. Either penetrating wounds or blunt trauma may produce sufficient tissue destruction to necessitate removal of the head of the pancreas or duodenum with diversion of biliary, pancreatic, and alimentary ...

Pancreaticoduodenectomy for malignancies in children
Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 2014Malignant tumors of the common bile duct or of the pancreas head are uncommon in childhood [Perez EA, Gutierrez JC, Koniaris LG, Neville HL, Thompson WR, Sola JE. Malignant pancreatic tumors: incidence and outcome in 58 pediatric patients. J Pediatr Surg. 2009; Jan; 44 (1): 197-203].

Experience With 21 Pancreaticoduodenectomies
Archives of Surgery, 1976Twenty-one patients underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy-19 for neoplasia and two for benign disease (operative mortality, 9.5%). Anastomotic leakage occurred in three patients (14.3%); in two it was biliary and in one it was pancreatic. Vagotomy was not employed and there were no instances of stomal ulceration.

Pancreaticoduodenectomy and Its Variants
The Cancer Journal, 2012Pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) is a complex surgical procedure involving resection of the duodenum, the pancreatic head and uncinate process, and the distal common bile duct. It is most commonly performed for periampullary malignancy but may also be indicated in select cases of chronic pancreatitis or benign periampullary tumors.

Determinants of complications in pancreaticoduodenectomy
European Journal of Surgical Oncology (EJSO), 2007The factors determining complications after pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) have not yet been identified clearly. This retrospective study examined, using reproducible classification systems, the type and severity of complications as well as the factors to predict them.Between 1998 and 2005 PD was performed in 351 consecutive patients with peri-ampullary ...

Completed Laparoscopic Pancreaticoduodenectomy
Surgical Laparoscopy, Endoscopy & Percutaneous Techniques, 2008A 55-year-old male patient, complaining of skin and sclera yellowing, came in for clinical investigation. After complete evaluation, the primitive diagnosis of periampullary carcinoma was made and radical surgical resection was planned to be performed. Later, a complete laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy was performed successfully. The mean operating
