Clinical pharmacokinetics of pancuronium bromide

Plasma concentrations of pancuronium bromide have been studied in seven surgical patients following a 6 mg intravenous bolus injection of the drug for neuromuscular blockade. Concurrently, evoked muscle twitch response was monitored for each patient as a measure of the pharmacodynamic effect of the drug. The plasma decay curve for pancuronium was found

To the Editor.— In reference to the LETTER TO THE EDITOR by Beam (223:1044, 1973) we want to state that 0.2 mg/kg pancuronium bromide used by this correspondent as an initial dose to facilitate controlled ventilation is never indicated and reveals a complete lack of familiarity with the clinical pharmacology of pancuronium.

To the Editor.— Pancuronium bromide, a new muscle relaxant used mostly in surgical procedures the past five years, was recently administered for status asthmaticus (222:1265, 1972). This report, others, and the package insert indicate insignificant cardiovascular effects with the use of pancuronium.
