Physician Referral Patterns to Physical Therapists for Managing Knee Osteoarthritis: A Retrospective Analysis of Electronic Health Records from an Integrated Health System

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objectives This study aims to describe the frequency and timing of physician referrals to physical therapists (PT) and other treatments prescribed over 12 months in patients with recent onset of knee osteoarthritis (KOA). The study also aims to identify determinants of early PT referrals.

Synthetic Strategy for mRNA Encapsulation and Gene Delivery with Nanoscale Metal‐Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This research utilizes the ZIF‐8 for the encapsulation and intracellular delivery of nucleic acids, specifically mRNA, for applications in gene delivery. Integrating PEI addresses the issue of mRNA leakage from ZIF‐8, resulting in the delivery and expression of green fluorescent protein (GFP) in vitro and firefly luciferase in vivo.

Hypertension and Ventilatory Responses During Exercise in the Fitness Registry and the Importance of Exercise National Database (FRIEND)

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease
Background A high minute ventilation/rate of carbon dioxide production (V̇E/V̇co2) slope during exercise is prognostic for cardiovascular death. Recent data indicate that adults with either controlled or untreated primary hypertension, but not those with

Cholesterol in mRNA‐Lipid Nanoparticles can be Replaced with the Synthetic Mycobacterial Monomycoloyl Glycerol Analogue MMG‐1

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that cholesterol in messenger RNA‐lipid nanoparticles (mRNA‐LNPs) can be completely replaced with an immunopotentiating lipid, i.e., a synthetic analogue of the C‐type lectin receptor agonist monomycoloyl glycerol (MMG‐1), without compromising physicochemical properties, in vivo transfection efficiency, and immunogenicity of the

Printing Nacre‐Mimetic MXene‐Based E‐Textile Devices for Sensing and Breathing‐Pattern Recognition Using Machine Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a Ti3C2Tx MXene/WPU nacre‐mimetic nanomaterial as a printable ink for direct‐write printing onto textiles‐based sensors. The resulting wearable device demonstrates high sensitivity, biocompatibility, and mechanical strength. Furthermore, NFC‐enabled humidity sensor produces time‐series data, which informs a machine learning ...

Biomaterial Strategies for Targeted Intracellular Delivery to Phagocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Phagocytes are essential to a functional immune system, and their behavior defines disease outcomes. Engineered particles offer a strategic opportunity to target phagocytes, harnessing inflammatory modulation in disease. By tuning features like size, shape, and surface, these systems can modulate immune responses and improve targeted treatment for a ...
