Homeostasis of Gut Microbiota Protects against Susceptibility to Fungal Pneumonia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Fungal pneumonia induces inflammation, shown by heightened IL‐6, IL‐1β, TNF‐α levels and a growth in Staphylococcus in the alveolar flora. The gut microbiota, acting through the gut‐lung axis via blood, impacts fungal pneumonia susceptibility by altering lung metabolism and inflammatory responses.

NSP7 Molecular Degrader Attenuates Coronaviral Infection Through the β‐TrCP1/FBXO5 Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Host E3 ligase FBXO5 as a key regulator that promotes K48‐linked ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation of SARS‐CoV‐2 NSP7, thereby suppressing viral replication. NSP7 ubiquitination is co‐regulated by β‐TrCP1 and TAF1. Small molecule BC24877 disrupts β‐TrCP1‐mediated degradation of FBXO5, stabilizing FBXO5 and enhancing NSP7 clearance ...

Quantification of the time-varying epidemic growth rate and of the delays between symptom onset and presenting to healthcare for the mpox epidemic in the UK in 2022

open access: yesScientific Reports
The mpox epidemic in the UK began in May 2022, with rates of new cases unexpectedly and rapidly declining during August 2022. Interpreting trends in infection requires disentangling the underlying growth rate of cases from the delay from symptom onset to

A Comprehensive Lateral Flow Strip Assay for On‐Site mRNA Vaccine Quality Control in Decentralized Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A rapid, portable lateral flow strip assay for on‐site mRNA quality control is developed, enabling sequence‐independent analysis of 5' capping, integrity, and LNPs encapsulation efficiency. This cost‐effective method offers real‐time stability monitoring, reduced sample requirements, and comparable accuracy to standard techniques, enhancing ...

Phase 0 trials/ Intra-Target-Microdosing (ITM) and the lung: a review

open access: yesBMC Pulmonary Medicine
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of efficient drug discovery in respiratory disease. The traditional set up of clinical trials is expensive and allows for significant attrition of new drugs, many of which undergo extensive safety ...
