Interlaminar stresses in antisymmetric angle-ply cylindrical shell panels

Composite Structures, 2011
Abstract Layerwise theory of Reddy is utilized for investigating free-edge effects in antisymmetric angle-ply laminated shell panels under uniform axial extension. Following some physical arguments, governing displacement field is divided into local and global parts.

Optimal Angle of Inclination for Fixed Solar Panels/Collectors

Volume 5: Engineering Education and Professional Development, 2011
In the use of solar energy as a source of renewable energy a practical question is commonly encountered. “What is the optimal angle of inclination for fixed solar panels?” This is applicable for both arrays of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels as well as for flat plate solar collectors.

Effect Of Panel Position And Angle On Photovoltaic Panel Characteristics

2020

Local Buckling of Blade Stiffened Variable Angle Tow Panels

55th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference, 2014
In recent years analytical methods and finite element analysis (FEA) have shown that variable angle tow (VAT) laminates deliver a significant improvement in buckling and post- buckling performance. However to date, most research has been limited to simple geome- tries, such as plates and shells, with standard boundary conditions; a large gap exists ...

Non-linear behaviour of lattice panel of angle towers

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 2001
Abstract Lattice microwave towers and transmission towers are frequently made of angles bolted together directly or through gussets. Such towers are normally analysed to obtain design forces using the linear static methods, assuming the members to be subjected to only axial loads and the deformations to be small.

An alternative panel flutter approach utilizing minimum angle tracking

40th Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference and Exhibit, 1999
An alternative panel flutter approach utilizing minimum angle is presented. This method utilizes eigenvectors rather than eigenvalues. The minimum angle is the lowest value among the angles between modes i and j at a certain pressure condition. Cross-ply composite plates are considered in this study.

Optimum Solar Panel Tilt Angle for Maximum Annual Irradiation

Volume 6: Emerging Technologies: Alternative Energy Systems; Energy Systems: Analysis, Thermodynamics and Sustainability, 2009
This work presents a simple numerical model, based on a spreadsheet, to optimize solar panel tilt angle for given panel azimuth angle. This approach uses ASHRAE’s solar irradiation model, which presents a comprehensive model for calculating solar irradiation based on direct, reflected, diffuse and scattered components of solar irradiation.

Damage Tolerance of Buckling Optimized Variable Angle Tow Panels

50th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference, 2009
Elastic stiffness tailoring of composite panels with curved fibers, or Variable Angle Tows (VATs), for maximum buckling performance is presented. The panels are modeled efficiently using the exact finite strip program, VICONOPT, and are optimized using a Genetic Algorithm. VAT panel designs are compared with straight fiber panels and are shown to offer

Nonlinear Analysis of Imperfect Cylindrical Angle-Ply Panels

1990
A unified approximate solution to the Marguerre-type nonlinear equations is formulated for nonlinear free vibration and postbuckling responses of an antisymmetrically laminated angle-ply shallow cylindrical panel with the two adjacent edges clamped and the other edges simply supported. The effects of geometric initial imperfection and Winkler-Pasternak
