Journal of Systematics and Evolution, Volume 64, Issue 3, Page 520-535, May 2026.A densely sampled phylogeny of Carex section Lupulinae (107 specimens) is presented, along with a new cryptic species from the southern United States. This species is locally abundant and genetically and morphologically distinct from other Lupulinae. An identification key is provided and phenological and ecological patterns are discussed.
