Distributions of Age at Death from Roman Epitaph Inscriptions: An Application of Data Mining [PDF]
Thousands of age at death inscriptions from Roman epitaphs are statistically analyzed. The Gompertz distribution is used to estimate survivor functions. The smoothed distributions are classified according to the estimation results.

The inscription AE 1961, 22 from between 54 and 68 AD is not an evidence for the separation of Illyricum into Dalmatia and Pannonia as believed by P. Kovacs. In this private dedication to Nero the name Pannonia seems to have been used instead of the official name. There is no evidence that Illyricum Inferius was called Pannonia before Vespasian.
