Geographic variation in the life history of lane snapper Lutjanus synagris, with new insights from the warm edge of its distribution

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, Volume 103, Issue 5, Page 950-964, November 2023., 2023
Abstract Research on life‐history variations in widely distributed fish species is needed to understand global warming impacts on populations and to improve fisheries management advice. The lane snapper Lutjanus synagris (Linnaeus, 1758) is commercially important to fisheries in the Western Central Atlantic, where spread information on its life‐history

The transnational influence of natural disasters on environmental attitudes

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Political Research, Volume 62, Issue 3, Page 761-780, August 2023., 2023
Abstract Natural disasters can affect individuals’ views about the environment, especially when these events are extreme and experienced by people directly (locally). In one of the first comprehensive and systematic attempts, we explore whether a similar relationship exists transnationally – a cross‐border effect stemming from environmental disasters ...

Cascading effects of elephant–human interactions and the role of space and mobility in sustaining biodiversity

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2023., 2023
Abstract Our study monitored the changes in elephant numbers, distribution, and ecological impacts over a 50‐year period. During this period, the free‐ranging intermingled movements of wildlife and traditional subsistence pastoralists across the Amboseli ecosystem were disrupted by a national park, livestock ranches, farms, settlements, and changing ...

High‐resolution drone imagery reveals drivers of fine‐scale giant otter habitat selection in the land‐water interface

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 4, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Neotropical freshwater habitats are particularly sensitive to degradation by human activity. Piscivorous semi‐aquatic freshwater megafauna inhabit both the terrestrial and aquatic mediums and thus may be good indicators of wetland habitat quality.

Pumas Puma concolor as ecological brokers: a review of their biotic relationships

open access: yesMammal Review, Volume 52, Issue 3, Page 360-376, July 2022., 2022
Pumas Puma concolor are the widest ranging mammal of the Western Hemisphere and one of the world’s largest carnivores. In this review, we aimed to synthesise the evidence on ecological interactions associated with pumas to advance our understanding of their biotic roles in ecosystems across the Americas.

First interventional exchange of a left transvenous phrenic nerve stimulation lead from the novel remedē system

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, Volume 31, Issue 11, Page 3056-3060, November 2020., 2020
Abstract The remedē system is a novel fully implantable transvenous phrenic nerve stimulation (TPNS) device developed to treat central sleep apnea. No information is published on how to explant or replace its leads. An eighty‐one year‐old had a fractured lead and we removed it over a wire.

Are fission–fusion dynamics consistent among populations? A large‐scale study with Cape buffalo

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 10, Issue 17, Page 9240-9256, September 2020., 2020
The frequency at which Cape buffalos split and join allows them to adjust to environmental conditions. In 3 distinct populations, the associations between individuals last on average between 1 and 3 days, but seasonal differences exist: In the dry season, buffalos split and join less frequently but stay in the same subgroup for longer periods than in ...

Diversity of medium and large mammals in the Loka Abaya National Park, southern Ethiopia

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 10, Issue 18, Page 9896-9905, September 2020., 2020
We investigated and determined medium and large mammalian diversity and identified habitat use and seasonal variation. We were able to record endangered and vulnerable mammals in the Loke Abaya National park. Abstract We evaluated the richness, diversity, and composition of the medium and large mammal community in the Loka Abaya National Park (LANP ...

Vertebrate community composition and activity at giant otter latrines in the northern Pantanal

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract Mustelids and other terrestrial carnivores use communal latrines where feces and urine serve as olfactory cues for territory demarcation and intraspecific communication. These strong scent cues may also influence the broader vertebrate community, either acting as an attractant for species in search of food or as a warning of predator presence.
