A Rapid Bioassay in Rats for Panthenol
Journal of the American Pharmaceutical Association (Scientific ed.), 1948An availability type of bioassay is presented for panthenol, the biologically active analog of pantothenic acid. The method is based upon the urinary excretion of pantothenic acid by the rat after dosage with panthenol. Pantothenic acid is determined by microbiological assay in the twenty-four hour urine.

Quantitative Fluorometric Determination of Panthenol in Multivitamin Preparations
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1964A new procedure is described for the estimation of panthenol in a multivitamin preparation highly concentrated in sugar. The method involves the quantitative elimination of sugar by crystallization in the presence of ethanol, extraction of panthenol from the dry residue with chloroform, purification of the extract on ion-exchange resins, and final ...

Panthenol and glucocorticoids.
Bollettino della Societa italiana di biologia sperimentale, 1982Urinary metabolites of glucocorticoids have been measured in man before and after administration of panthenol in high doses. The quantitative assay was performed according to the technique of Porter and Silber which measures only cortisol and some of its metabolites.

The Comparative Stability of Pantothenic Acid and Panthenol
Journal of the American Pharmaceutical Association (Scientific ed.), 1948In vivo studies have shown that panthenol, the alcohol analog of pantothenic acid, displays the vitamin activity, qualitatively and quantitatively, of pantothenic acid. Under certain conditions of dosage, the physiological availability of panthenol is superior to that of pantothenic acid.

In vitro human nail penetration and kinetics of panthenol
International Journal of Cosmetic Science, 2007SynopsisThe in vitro absorption of panthenol into and through the human nail was examined in this study. Panthenol, the alcohol form of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), is believed to act as a humectant and improve the flexibility and strength of nails. A liquid nail treatment formulated with panthenol (2%) was compared to a solution of panthenol (2%) in

Sensitive Colorimetric Method for the Determination of Panthenol in Multivitamin Preparation
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1961The described method involves separation of panthenol or pantothenate from its decomposition products and subsequent alkaline hydrolysis. The hydrolysis products are chlorinated and iodine is liberated by addition of an iodide solution. The yellow color formed is stabilized and determined colorimetrically.

Influence in vitro of panthenol on the resistance of staphylococci to antibiotics and sulfonamides
Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, 1956The action in vitro of the panthenol on the resistance of the staphylococci to the antibiotics and sulfonamides has been studied. We have been able to etablish that the panthenol has a “stimulating” effect on the action of the antibiotics and the sulfonamides. This effect was however insufficient to render a resistant strain sensitive.
