X-ray Spectral and Variability Properties of Low-Mass AGN [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We study the X-ray properties of a sample of 14 optically-selected low-mass AGN whose masses lie within the range 1E5 -2E6 M(solar) with XMM-Newton. Only six of these low-mass AGN have previously been studied with sufficient quality X-ray data, thus, we ...

X-ray variability analysis of a large series of XMM-Newton + NuSTAR observations of NGC 3227 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
We present a series of X-ray variability results from a long XMM-Newton + NuSTAR campaign on the bright, variable AGN NGC 3227. We present an analysis of the lightcurves, showing that the source displays typically softer-when-brighter behaviour, although

Service Evaluation: Increasing Transparency in Decision‐Making and Acknowledging Professional's Feelings When Working With Gender Dysphoria in Children's Mental Health Services

open access: yesChild &Family Social Work, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT There is a lack of evidence‐based guidelines for supporting young people with gender dysphoria and intellectual disability in the United Kingdom. The NHS is moving towards more care being provided by non‐specialist gender services and it is unclear what this may feel like for professionals in these services.

Análise espacial e de vizinhança no melhoramento genético de plantas Neighborhood and spatial analysis in plant breeding

Black hole mass estimation from X-ray variability measurements in AGN

open access: yes, 2004
We propose a new method of estimation of the black hole masses in AGN based on the normalized excess variance, sigma_{nxs}^2. We derive a relation between sigma_{nxs}^2, the length of the observation, T, the light curve bin size, Delta t, and the black ...

Seeing Others as Objects: Perceptual Objectification & Affordances

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Philosophy, EarlyView.
Abstract In discussions of objectification, the use of visual language is ubiquitous. It is striking that the literature often talks about treating and seeing someone as an object in the same breath. Yet accounts of objectification focus on objectifying treatment and leave the notion of objectifying perception unexplained.

Skew Premiums Around Earnings Announcements

open access: yesFinancial Review, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We examine skew premiums in equity options around earnings announcements. We use the realized returns to delta‐neutral risk reversal option spreads as a proxy for the skew premiums. We find skew premiums are economically significant around earnings announcements and are not explained by changes in variance risk premiums.

Modelling spatial dependence in an irregular natural forest

open access: yesSilva Fennica, 2008
The spatial dependence present in a natural stand of Eucalyptus pilularis (Smith) dominated mixed species forest was characterised and modelled. Two wildfires imposed a significant spatial dependence on the post disturbance stand.
