Picaje en Papagayo

open access: yes, 2006

Evaluating Complex Magma Mixing via Polytopic Vector Analysis (PVA) in the Papagayo Tuff, Northern Costa Rica: Processes that Form Continental Crust

open access: yesGeosciences, 2013
Over the last forty years, research has revealed the importance of magma mixing as a trigger for volcanic eruptions, as well as its role in creating the diversity of magma compositions in arcs.

Monsoon‐Induced Zonal Asymmetries in Moisture Transport Cause Anomalous Pacific Precipitation Minus Evaporation

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 47, Issue 18, 28 September 2020., 2020
Abstract Basin‐integrated precipitation minus evaporation (P − E) in the Pacific is near neutral while the Atlantic shows net evaporation. We link this P − E asymmetry to atmospheric moisture fluxes across the boundaries of the ocean drainage basins.

Factors that modulate the seasonal variability of the sea surface temperature of the Eastern Tropical Pacific [PDF]

open access: yesGeofísica Internacional, 2009
Seasonal variability of the sea surface temperature (SST) in the Eastern Tropical Pacific were studied. For this purpose the following data were analyzed: SST and wind data from the Comprehensive Ocean–Atmosphere Data Set from 1978 to 1997, temperature ...

Habitat Use and Foraging Ecology of Three Sea Turtle Species Nesting in Northwest Costa Rica

open access: yesMarine Ecology, Volume 46, Issue 6, November/December 2025.
ABSTRACT Sea turtle species, even when sharing nesting beaches, exhibit distinct at‐sea movements and foraging behavior. At Playa Cabuyal, a sea turtle nesting beach in northwest Costa Rica, we utilized satellite telemetry to reveal the post‐nesting movement of green turtles (Chelonia mydas, n = 9) alongside carbon and nitrogen stable isotope analysis ...

Impact of upwelling events on the sea water carbonate chemistry and dissolved oxygen concentration in the Gulf of Papagayo (Culebra Bay), Costa Rica: Implications for coral reefs

open access: yesRevista de Biología Tropical, 2012
The Gulf of Papagayo, Pacific coast of Costa Rica, is one of the three seasonal upwelling areas of Mesoamerica. In April 2009, a 29-hour experiment was carried out at the pier of the Marina Papagayo, Culebra Bay.

Generation and propagation of anticyclonic rings in the Gulf of Papagayo

open access: yesInternational Journal of Remote Sensing, 2004
Lagrangian drifting buoys, local meteorological stations and AVHRR data were used to describe the generation and propagation of anticyclonic rings in the Gulf of Papagayo during the upwelling season in 1996. Some observations were consistent with two generation mechanisms previously proposed: forcing by inertially rotating Papagayo wind jets and ...

Assessing Structural Geological Controls on Groundwater Processes in Mountain Settings: Insights From Three‐Dimensional Numerical Modeling

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 61, Issue 8, August 2025.
Abstract Mountains play a critical role in the hydrological cycle by transferring heavy precipitation to lowland aquifers. However, their complexity and remoteness limit our understanding of groundwater flow, particularly the influence of faults. To fill the gap, semi‐idealized 3D numerical models calibrated using the mountain river network and the ...
