This paper presents an innovative application of chitosan material to be used as pH-responsive valves for the precise control of lateral flow in microfluidic paper-based analytical devices (μPADs). The fabrication of μPADs involved wax printing, while pH-responsive valves were created using a solution of chitosan in acetic acid.
