Recycling and Recycled Paper

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1992
Mention using recycled paper and many people think of tall trees in pristine forests being saved from a lumberjack's saw. While it is true that when paper is recycled fewer trees need to be cut, that is not the real issue. Trees used for making paper are a renewable resource. They are planted and harvested much like any other crop.

Recycling of paper

Conservation & Recycling, 1976
Abstract The market situation of paper and of the raw materials for paper production are reviewed, and it is concluded that, in the future, a shortage of raw materials is very probable. An additional source of fibres might be found in municipal refuse if appropriate processes can be developed.

Paper Recycling Energetics: Some Canadian Experience

Environmental Letters, 1974
Abstract Energy calculations for manufacture of paper from logs and waste papers are reported based on data on energy use from the Canadian Census of Manufactures and estimates for collection and de-inking of waste. The energy requirement of the recycling technology explored exceeds the energy requirement of manufacture from logs by 33%.

Recyclability of release paper

International Paperworld IPW, 2008
There is a need to increase the recovered paper utilisation rate. One available fibre source would be release papers, if the silicone coating can be removed in normal deinking process because it impairs the quality of a printed surface. There is no publication concerning release paper recycling in the normal household paper stream.
