On the Origins of Out‐of‐Plane Auxetic Response in Paper
Paper can be auxetic! Paper can exhibit a range of out‐of‐plane Poisson's ratio (PR) values. Examining handsheets made from hardwood (HW) and softwood (SW) fibers, of a variety of weights (1, 3, or 5 g) and refining degrees (none, R, or R+), showed that the sign and magnitude of PR can be finely controlled by modifying network parameters.

Spherical polymer brushes were synthesized by grafting acrylamide from the surface of γ-methacryloxypropyl trimethoxy-silane-modified SiO2 nanoparticles. Then, cationic spherical polyacrylamide (CSPAM) brushes were obtained by a manniched polyacrylamide (

Modelling an inverted belt filter [PDF]
This project report describes the attempts to model the adhesive forces relevant to the manufacture of products such as fibre cement board. As they are made with an inverted belt filter, the mixture must adhere to the underside for a considerable time ...

Gravity drainage kinetics of papermaking fibrous suspensions [PDF]
The study analyses application possibilities of filtration and thickening models in evaluation of papermaking suspension drainage rate. The authors proposed their own method to estimate the drainage rate on the basis of an existing Ergun capillary model ...

Duplex Stainless Steel Laser‐Surface Textured: Stability in Brine Solution
Controlled laser‐surface treatment (LST) of duplex DSS2205 steel is performed to increase its stability in brine solution under cyclic electrochemical assays. The superior protection with respect to flat and smooth panels is attributed to the presence of FeCr2O4 as the main protective oxide layer in the LST surface, after corrosion tests. The stability

Wood and fibre properties of fertilized Norway spruce [PDF]
Very intensive forest management is relatively unexplored in Sweden, and while there is interest in pursuing e.g. the use of fertilizers on selected areas, there is concern about the quality of the wood when growth rate increases.

Spin‐Crossover Confinement in Mesoporous Matrices Enables Tunable Porosity for Molecular Sensing
The integration of hierarchically organized porous frameworks with spin‐crossover nanodomains enables cooperative interactions across multiple length scales. This hybrid design merges dynamic molecular switching with tunable porosity, yielding materials whose structural and functional responses are actively modulated by confinement and guest uptake ...

The Effect of Silica Surface Area on Microparticle Retention Systems [PDF]
Retention of fines and fillers has always been a concern in the paper industry. There has been many different types of retention aids in the past, but they lack performance under the vigorous conditions in today\u27s paper mills.

Natural fiber reinforced polymer composites [PDF]
The use of natural fibers as a reinforcement for various materials was recorded already in ancient Egypt; however, their rediscovery can be dated to the beginning of 20th century.
