Fiber Properties and Papermaking Potential of Recycled Acacia Pulp

2004
The principle of paper recycling is based on that the inter-fiber bonding can be broken by hydration to isolate individual pulp fiber; that is, the sheet forming using water is a reversible process. It is interrogative whether every aspect in recycling is reversible, preserving the level of paper-making properties.

Use of Hardwoods in an Integrated Biorefinery: Modelling of the Pretreatment Process and Papermaking Potential

Journal of Biobased Materials and Bioenergy, 2014
Pretreatment of hardwood can dissolve some of its hemicellulose, which can be used as a feedstock solution for biofuels and bioproducts within the context of a wood based biorefinery. It is well known that most pretreatment methods accelerate subsequent pulping and bleaching reactions.

Biometry and verification of papermaking potential of secondary xylem fibers of two Theobroma species

Environment, Development and Sustainability, 2020
Theobroma glandiflorum and T. cacao, known as cupuacu and cacao, respectively, are species widely used for food purposes. However, when plantations are renewed, these plants are discarded, making studies on the reuse of this material necessary. Thus, the objective of this study was to perform biometry of cellular elements and to investigate the ...

Sequential modelling of thermal energy: New potential for energy optimisation in papermaking

Applied Energy, 2012
Papermaking is known as an energy-intensive, but not always efficient industry. This is at least partly due to the fact that the majority of papermaking technologies and procedures were established at a time when energy was both cheap and plentiful. A considerable fraction of the energy required for papermaking is consumed in removing water by the use ...

Exploration of Traditional Papermaking by Potential Application of DNA Research

Journal of Ethnobiology
Paper and papermaking have been critical tools in the development of information societies throughout history. Despite their significance, the traditional papermaking and its propagation remains uncertain. This study investigates the potential presence of DNA in traditional paper and papermaking processes using DNA extraction and morphological analysis

Papermaking potential of rapeseed straw, a new agricultural-based fiber source

Journal of Cleaner Production, 2013
Abstract The main papermaking characteristics of rapeseed straw (Brassica napus L.) as an agricultural residue were investigated. The average fiber length, width, lumen, and cell wall thickness were found to be 1.03 mm, 28.00 μm, 19.1 μm, and 4.91 μm, respectively.

Potentials of agricultural waste and grasses in pulp and papermaking

2013
Potentials of some agricultural waste and grasses were investigated. Potassium hydroxide from wood ash was used as alkali for pulping. Results from visopan Microscope showed that banana stalk has the highest fibre length of 2.60 mm and Bahaman grass has the least fibre length of 0.85 mm.

Papermaking potential of Pennisetum hybridum fiber after fertilizing treatment with municipal sewage sludge

Journal of Cleaner Production, 2019
Abstract This study uses municipal sewage sludge (MSS) as a fertilizer for cultivating Pennisetum hybridum (hybrid Giant Napier grass). The effects of the MSS treatment on the chemical composition of Pennisetum hybridum and on the properties of paper made from its pulp were investigated.
