The magnitude of cryptic insect diversity in one tropical rainforest
We detected 214 cryptic species out of a total of 2006 species (10.6%) examined from 22 focal insect taxa in 1500 ha tropical rainforest in Panama. The percentage of cryptic species varied greatly among assemblages (0%–19%), with half of the assemblages devoid of cryptic species and the highest proportions of cryptics in Pieridae and Formicidae ...

Low‐sodium females took significantly longer to start mating than high‐sodium females, but no pairings differed in the duration of copulation. Reproductive outputs, measured by number of clutches, hatching young, adult offspring and pupation time, did not differ across parental sodium pairings.

Genomic data refine the species boundary of Papilio machaon and confirm the species status of Papilio saharae, with clarification of subspecies delineation of Mediterranean machaon and saharae. A heterogeneous level of genome‐wide heterozygosity between island and continental lineages warrants further taxonomic implications, and there is also evidence ...

Floral Color and Family Drive Contrasting Plant–Pollinator Responses to Nutrient Enrichment
Floral taxonomic family and color mediated how plant–pollinator reactions respond to nutrient enrichment. Nitrogen enrichment increased yellow and purple Asteraceae flowers and decreased pink, blue, and green flowers in Geraniaceae, Fabaceae, and Iridaceae. These shifts in floral colors and traits altered pollinator composition.
