N-methyl-d-aspartate receptors in the cortex and hippocampus of baboon (Papio anubis andPapio papio)

Neuroscience, 1989
In vitro autoradiography was used to examine the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor in the brain of a baboon species, Papio anubis, and compared to that of Papio papio which exhibits a photosensitive epilepsy. The epilepsy originates in the frontal cortex and is accompanied by an enhanced sensitivity to N-methyl-D-aspartate.

The prevalence of spontaneous endometriosis in the baboon (Papio anubis, Papio cynocephalus) increases with the duration of captivity

Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, 1996
Background. It is not known whether stress affects the prevalence of endometriosis in women. Baboons with spontaneous endometriosis may be interesting models to study the human disease. For baboons, living in captivity is a period of chronic stress without continuous exposure to pregnancy.

Morbidity and immune response to natural schistosomiasis in baboons ( Papio anubis )

Parasitology Research, 2003
The morbidity and immunological response to naturally acquired Schistosoma mansoni infection in a population of wild baboons ( n=28) was investigated. Serum obtained from the baboons was assayed for adult worm (SWAP) and schistosome egg (SEA)-specific immunoglobulin (Ig)G and IgM antibodies.

Predation by a troop of olive baboons (Papio anubis)

American Journal of Physical Anthropology, 1973
AbstractDuring 1970–1971, a troop of 49 olive baboons was observed in a partially protected area in Kenya, not far from the village of Gilgil. The baboons were seen to catch and eat 47 small animals, a rate of predation far higher than has been reported for any other nonhuman primate.

Intrapelvic injection of menstrual endometrium causes endometriosis in baboons (Papio cynocephalus and Papio anubis)

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1995
The Sampson hypothesis of retrograde menstruation as a cause of endometriosis was tested by determining the effect of intrapelvic injection of menstrual versus luteal endometrium on the incidence, peritoneal involvement, and stage of endometriosis.Seventeen baboons were injected retroperitoneally with luteal (n = 6) or menstrual (n = 7) endometrium and

Embryo—Maternal Dialogue in the Baboon (Papio Anubis)

1999
“Endometrial receptivity” has been defined as the period during the menstrual or estrous cycle that is most favorable for blastocyst implantation. However, in the absence of a blastocyst or a blastocyst “signal,” the true definition of a receptive uterus is difficult to ascertain. This is especially true for studies pertaining to the human endometrium.

Palatal growth in baboons (Papio cynocephalus anubis)

Primates, 1984
In this study the structure and development of the palate as observed in a cross-sectional collection of olive baboons (Papio cynocephalus anubis) skulls are described and analyzed using craniometric techniques. Considered are structural functional relationships among different parts of the palate, and between the palate and other parts of the ...
