Homogenization of a nonlinear random parabolic partial differential equation

open access: yesStochastic Processes and their Applications, 2003
The homogenization problem for a semilinear second order parabolic equation with random coefficients \[ \partial _ {t}u^ \varepsilon = \sum ^ {n}_ {i,j=1}\partial _ {x_ {i}}\Bigl (a_ {ij}\Bigl (\frac {x}{\varepsilon }, \xi _ {t/\varepsilon ^ 2}\Bigr )\partial _ {x_ {j}} u^ \varepsilon \Bigr ) + \frac 1{\varepsilon }g\Bigl (\frac {x}{\varepsilon }, \xi ...

Terahertz Chiral Recognition Based on Metasurfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
A novel terahertz chiral sensing method based on a multilayer metallic metasurface is proposed. The left‐handed circularly polarized and right‐handed circularly polarized components in the linearly polarized illuminating light into two focal points and convert them back into linear polarization for convenient measurement.

Comparison Theorem for Nonlinear Path-Dependent Partial Differential Equations

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2014
We introduce a type of fully nonlinear path-dependent (parabolic) partial differential equation (PDE) in which the path ωt on an interval [0, t] becomes the basic variable in the place of classical variables t,x∈[0,T]×ℝd.

Directing the Mobility of Guest Molecules in Nanoporous Materials by Linearly Polarized Light

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The polarization of light is introduced as a further parameter to dynamically and reversibly control the properties of a photoresponsive nanoporous material. It was used to control the mobility of the guest molecules in the pores of a metal–organic framework.

Helix Alignment, Chevrons, and Edge Dislocations in Twist‐Bend Ferroelectric Nematics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The recently discovered twist‐bend ferroelectric nematic (NTBF) is the new member of the multiferroic family, representing a fluid with an oblique helicoidal (heliconical) periodic structure of spontaneous electric polarization. The work presents a thorough exploration of the material properties of this phase, how the periodic modulation of ...

Parameter estimation problems for distributed systems using a multigrid method [PDF]

open access: yes
The problem of estimating spatially varying coefficients of partial differential equations is considered from observation of the solution and of the right hand side of the equation.
