Pituitary Adenoma Revealed by Paracentral Junctional Scotoma of Traquair

Ophthalmologica, 1997
The term junctional scotoma of Traquair is used to describe a unilateral temporal visual field defect due to pathology of the ipsilateral optic nerve where it joins the chiasm. We report a 26-year-old woman who presented with blurred vision of her left eye. Examination revealed visual acuity of 20/20 OU, AO-HRR color plates 6/6 OD and 4.5/6 OS, and a 0.

Paracentral and Cecocentral Scotomas After Pars Plana Vitrectomy for Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 2020
To describe novel paracentral and cecocentral visual scotomas after pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) repair over a 5-year period.Retrospective case series. This was a retrospective review of all patients who reported visual scotomas after 23- or 25-gauge PPV (Constellation Vision System, Alcon, Fort Worth, Texas ...

Central and Paracentral Homonymous Hemianopic Scotomas

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1930
The two cases here reported showed paracentral homonymous hemianopic scotomas with involvement of the macular region of one eye in the first case and of both eyes in the second. This type of disturbance has not hitherto been recorded in nontraumatic cases. As to life, the prognosis is variable in accordance with the etiology.

Anomalous Macular Vessel and Associated Acquired Paracentral Scotoma

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1983
In 1% of normal eyes retinal vessels cross over the anatomic horizontal raphe and supply the retinal tissue both above and below it. 1 This coursing over the raphe is difficult to explain anatomically and embryologically. We studied an anomalous macular arterial vessel in a woman who had a paracentral absolute scotoma in her right eye.

The Detection of Paracentral Scotomas With Varying Grids in Computed Perimetry

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1986
The ability to identify the physiologic blind spot was reviewed for programs 31 and 32 on the OCTOPUS 201 perimeter. One eye of 100 randomly selected patients suspected of having glaucoma were used in the study. OCTOPUS program 31 failed to identify the physiologic blind spot in 11 eyes (22%), while program 32 missed the blind spot in three eyes (6 ...

Correlation of Macular Sparing and Homonymous Paracentral Scotomas With MRI Lesions in Posterior Cerebral Artery Infarction

Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology, 2022
Background: The concepts of the representation of visual field in primary visual cortex are based on studies of war wounds and correlations with brain imaging in small cohorts. Because of the difficulty of judging brain lesion extent and the small number of studied patients, there is lingering controversy as to whether the ...

Paracentral Homonymous Hemianopic Scotoma

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1957
Paracentral homonymous hemianopic scotoma is a rare field defect. Only a small number of cases have been reported. In 1938 Allen and Carmen,1in reviewing the literature, reported on 15 cases, including 1 of their own. Walsh,2in his book, devotes two short paragraphs to the subject, citing the cases reported by Allen and Carmen but adding no new cases ...

Anatomical Correlate of a Persistent Paracentral Scotoma After an Airbag Injury

Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 2009
Ocular injuries caused by deploying airbags are well-described in the literature and can be either mechanical or chemical in nature. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first report describing an isolated paracentral scotoma noted immediately after an airbag injury.

BITEMPORAL PARACENTRAL SCOTOMA

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1931
It was because of two particularly interesting features that I desired to present this case of bitemporal paracentral scotoma: (1) the disposition of the scotoma unassociated with disease of the pituitary body and (2) the unusual etiology. REPORT OF CASE History .—J. R. K., a man, aged 36, consulted me in regard to his eyes on Sept. 2, 1930.

HOMONYMOUS HEMIANOPIC PARACENTRAL SCOTOMA

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1939
To the Editor: —In a paper on homonymous hemianopic paracentral scotoma in the November issue of theArchives( 20 :846, 1938) it is stated that in textbooks on perimetry little discussion has been devoted to this type of defect and that in my "Introduction to Clinical Perimetry" I have "merely defined the defect." The authors quote from chapter 5 of ...
