Application of Turbo-Expander for Greenhouse Gas and Air Pollutant Emissions Reduction Using Exergy and Economical Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2017
The effects of greenhouse gases (GHG) on the growth of global warming, and increase of GHG and air pollutant emissions for energy production have forced the need of energy recovery which is normally wasted in industrial plant.

Understanding the Effect of Resistance Temperature Detector Temperature Controllers on Microstructural Alignment in Magnetic Freeze Casting

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The effect of temperature controllers that are commonly used in freeze‐casting is investigated in this work. Temperature controllers are observed to generate a voltage in the slurry. Microstructural alignment and ultimate compressive strength data show this voltage to interfere with the ability to align the microstructure using magnetic fields ...

El Paraíso en el Nuevo Mundo de Antonio de León Pinelo

open access: yesTerra Brasilis, 2022
This essay is a study of Antonio de León Pinelo and his work El Paraíso en el Nuevo Mundo (1656). It highlights how the author formulates an apologetic discourse of the New World in the form of a natural history focused on the exotic and the wonderful ...

The impact of Paradise shelducks (Tadorna variegata) on pastoral communities and their role as reservoirs af agricultural diseases : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Conservation Ecology, Massey University, Auckland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Since its habitat expansion, due to human land clearance for farmland, paradise shelducks (Tadorna variegata) have established a firm foothold in the New Zealand agricultural environment.

Golden‐Ratio–Guided Aperiodic Architected Metamaterials with Simultaneously Enhanced Strength and Toughness

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Guided by the golden ratio, a class of aperiodic architected metamaterials is introduced to address the intrinsic trade‐off between strength and toughness. By unifying local geometric heterogeneity with global order, the golden‐ratio‐guided aperiodic architecture promotes spatial delocalization of damage tolerence regions, leading to more tortuous ...

Low‐Temperature Fabrication of Thymosin β4‐Loaded Soluble Microneedles to Promote Wound Healing by Specific Binding to Downregulated Immune Regulators Vsig4 and IL22rɑ2

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Schematic diagram depicting the fabrication and application of thymosin β4 (Tβ4)‐loaded microneedle patches for wound treatment. The Tβ4 was loaded into chitosan (CS) and sucrose MNs under mild conditions (4°C, 65% relative humidity). The Tβ4 MN patch specifically binds to the downregulated immune regulators Vsig4 and IL22rα2, thereby accelerating ...

Nitroxide‐Mediated Photo‐Polymerization: A Swiss Army Knife for Microfluidic Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This article illustrates the application of NMP2 to the rapid (less than 1 h) photostructuring and sealing of model structures intended for microfluidic applications. Remarkably, the careful design of resin composition allows completing these steps by simply spreading bare monomer (i.e., no added photoinitiator) on top of the bottom layer embedding ...

In Situ Lipoprotein‐seeking Dye for in Vivo Real‐Time Imaging of Lipid Dysregulation Diseases

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops lipoprotein‐seeking NIR‐II dyes that specifically bind circulating lipoproteins. These dyes form ultra‐stable complexes with endogenous lipoprotein, enabling real‐time, high‐contrast imaging of fatty liver and atherosclerotic plaques. Tunable binding kinetics allow customized imaging windows.
