Dissolving the Paradoxicality Paradox

The Australasian Journal of Logic, 2022
Non-classical solutions to semantic paradox can be associated with conceptions of paradoxicality understood in terms of entailment facts. In a K3-based theory of truth, for example, it is prima facie natural to say that a sentence φ is paradoxical iff φ ∨ ¬φ entails an absurdity.

Chiral tunnelling and the Klein paradox in graphene

, 2006
The so-called Klein paradox—unimpeded penetration of relativistic particles through high and wide potential barriers—is one of the most exotic and counterintuitive consequences of quantum electrodynamics.

The paradox of observation and the observation of paradox

Journal of Experimental & Theoretical Artificial Intelligence, 1995
Abstract Achilles cannot overtake a fleeing tortoise because in the interval of time that he takes to get to where the tortoise was, it can move away. But even if it should wait for him Achilles must first reach the half-way mark between them and he cannot do this unless he first reaches the half-way mark to that mark, and so on indefinitely.

A Paradox

The Mathematical Gazette, 1964
The following definition of differential is not uncommon. It is to be found in Goursat’s and Hardy’s classical texts, as well as in a few more recent ones.

The No-No Paradox Is a Paradox

Australasian Journal of Philosophy, 2011
The No-No Paradox consists of a pair of statements, each of which ‘says’ the other is false. Roy Sorensen claims that the No-No Paradox provides an example of a true statement that has no truthmaker: Given the relevant instances of the T-schema, one of the two statements comprising the ‘paradox’ must be true (and the other false), but symmetry ...

A Recipe for Paradox

The Australasian Journal of Logic, 2022
In this paper, we provide a recipe that not only captures the common structure of semantic paradoxes but also captures our intuitions regarding the relations between these paradoxes. Before we unveil our recipe, we first talk about a well-known schema introduced by Graham Priest, namely, the Inclosure Schema.

The Myth of the Privacy Paradox

Social Science Research Network, 2020
In this article, Professor Daniel Solove deconstructs and critiques the privacy paradox and the arguments made about it. The “privacy paradox” is the phenomenon where people say that they value privacy highly, yet in their behavior relinquish their ...

An Overview and Update on Obesity and the Obesity Paradox in Cardiovascular Diseases.

Progress in cardiovascular diseases, 2018
Obesity increases a number of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors, but patients with many types of CVD may have a better prognosis if classified as overweight or obese, a phenomenon known as the "obesity paradox".

Growth paths for overcoming the digitalization paradox

, 2020
Despite the demonstrated opportunities for revenue enhancement through digitalization, companies often experience a digitalization paradox. This paradox suggests that although companies may invest in digitalization, they often fail to achieve the ...
