Human prostate sphere-forming cells represent a subset of basal epithelial cells capable of glandular regeneration in vivo. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
BackgroundProstate stem/progenitor cells function in glandular development and maintenance. They may be targets for tumor initiation, so characterization of these cells may have therapeutic implications.

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

Comparison of histological and computed tomographic measurements of pig lung bronchi

open access: yesERJ Open Research, 2020
Aim Light microscopy is used as template in the evaluation and further development of medical imaging methods. Tissue shrinkage caused by histological processing is known to influence lung tissue dimensions. In diagnosis of COPD, computed tomography (CT)

Genetic alterations in gliosarcoma and giant cell glioblastoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The majority of glioblastomas develop rapidly with a short clinical history (primary glioblastoma IDH wild-type), whereas secondary glioblastomas progress from diffuse astrocytoma or anaplastic astrocytoma.

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Deparaffination time: a crucial point in histochemical detection of tissue copper

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Histochemistry, 2009
The search for a sensitive histochemical method for revealing tissue copper has been the object of many workers in the past. In spite of multiple methods available, the occurrence in clinical practice of negative histochemical stains, even in cases with ...

KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.

The occipital lateral plate mesoderm is a novel source for vertebrate neck musculature [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In vertebrates, body musculature originates from somites, whereas head muscles originate from the cranial mesoderm. Neck muscles are located in the transition between these regions.

Low vacuum scanning electron microscopy for paraffin sections utilizing the differential stainability of cells and tissues with platinum blue.

open access: yesArchives of histology and cytology, 2009
The present study introduces a novel method for the direct observation of histological paraffin sections by low vacuum scanning electron microscopy (LVSEM) with platinum blue (Pt-blue) treatment.
