Paragonimiasis and the Genus Paragonimus
1999The review concentrates on literature that has appeared since the 1960s. Since then, numerous species of Paragonimus have been described, mainly from Asia but also from Africa and the Americas. Some of these cause disease in humans. Recent information on life cycles and routes of transmission is summarized.

This chapter provides state-of-the-art overviews on foodborne diseases caused by Paragonimus in relation to their etiology, biology, epidemiology, clinical presentation, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. Lung flukes of the genus Paragonimus are zoonotic agents of paragonimiasis in animals and humans. Their life cycle requires at least

The Distribution of Paragonimus
The Journal of Parasitology, 1937A brief resume of the results of the study on the distribution of Paragonimus was published in the American Journal of Hygiene by one of us (Ameel, I934). However, it has been deemed advisable to place the complete data at the disposal of those who may be interested in furthering the knowledge of the distribution of this parasite in North America ...

Cross breeding experiments between 2 species of lung fluke, Paragonimus ohirai and Paragonimus iloktsuenensis, were carried out using metacercarial characteristics as distinguishing markers. All metacercariae of F1 obtained were identical to those of P. ohirai. In the F2 and BF1 of F1 X P. iloktsuenensis, both the P. ohirai and P.

Paragonimus and paragonimiasis in Asia: An update
Acta Tropica, 2019Paragonimiasis, or lung fluke disease, is a typical food-borne parasitic zoonosis caused by infection with trematodes belonging to the genus Paragonimus. More than 50 species of Paragonimus have been reported throughout the world, of which seven valid species infect humans, an estimated one million people annually worldwide. Among the seven species, P.

Molecular variation in fasciolids and Paragonimus
Acta Tropica, 1993Molecular variation, both intra- and inter-specific, in fasciolids and Paragonimus has been detected in isozymes and other proteins, antigens and nucleic acid sequences. The use of such data is reviewed for studies on population genetics, taxonomy, phylogeny, immunodiagnosis, ontogeny and host-induced variation.

The isoenzyme patterns of Paragonimus iloktsuenesis and P. westermani were studied by isoelectric focusing on polyacrylamide gels for PGM, MDH, HK, ME, PO and ACP. Interspecific differences were apparent as shown by the isoenzyme profiles of these enzymes examined.
