Mitochondrial and nuclear ribosomal DNA dataset supports that Paramphistomum leydeni (Trematoda: Digenea) is a distinct rumen fluke species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BACKGROUND: Rumen flukes parasitize the rumen and reticulum of ruminants, causing paramphistomiasis. Over the years, there has been considerable debate as to whether Paramphistomum leydeni and Paramphistomum cervi are the same or distant species. METHODS:

Wildlife Pathogens and Zoonotic Disease Risk Assessment in Vietnam: A Wildlife Trade Hotspot

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Vietnam is a wildlife trade hotspot presenting multiple high‐risk interfaces for pathogen spillover from wildlife to humans. However, the zoonotic disease risk remains poorly characterized in the country and needs to be assessed to better inform policy dialog and legislative reforms.

Pet and Stray Dogs’ Contribution to Zoonotic Transmission Pathways: A Bibliometric Review

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Based on a large‐scale bibliometric dataset, domestic dogs (Canis lupus familiaris) emerge as the most frequently cited host species in the context of zoonoses, being mentioned in at least 10% of publications for nearly a quarter of the pathogens recognized as zoonotic to humans.

Modelling environmentally-mediated infectious diseases of humans: transmission dynamics of schistosomiasis in China. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Macroparasites of humans are sensitive to a variety of environmental variables, including temperature, rainfall and hydrology, yet current comprehension of these relationships is limited.

Epidemiological Surveillance of Intestinal Parasites and Serological Analysis of Toxoplasma gondii in Captive Felids From Thailand Zoos

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine International, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Background: Wild felids have been in decline, which has been linked to health issues. Parasitic infections, including zoonotic ones, can contribute to the challenges faced regarding wildlife conservation efforts and may pose a risk to human health, particularly for people working at or visiting zoological parks.

Characterization of the Complete Mitochondrial Genome of Pleurogenoides japonicus (Digenea, Pleurogenidae): Comparison With the Members of Microphalloidea and Phylogenetic Implications

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2024.
We determined the complete mitochondrial genome of Pleurogenoides japonicus, being the first described of the family Pleurogenidae. The gene arrangement types of Xiphidiata trematodes are diverse, and the gene arrangement events mainly occurred in “trnE‐trnG” and “trnG‐trnE”.
