Prevalence, Antimicrobial Resistance, and Genetic Diversity of Non‐Typeable Streptococcus pneumoniae Carriage: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Non‐typeable Streptococcus pneumoniae (NT‐Sp) strains lack detectable capsules and are often missed by traditional serotyping. While associated primarily with asymptomatic carriage, NT‐Sp has emerged as a key player in antimicrobial resistance (AMR) gene dissemination and serotype replacement in the post‐vaccine era. This systematic

Sex Differences in Advanced HIV Disease at Presentation in Care Among People Living With HIV in Latin America and the Caribbean

open access: yesJournal of the International AIDS Society, Volume 29, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Introduction Despite an overall recent decline of 28% in the region, AIDS‐related deaths have increased among women in some Latin American countries. Low HIV risk perception among women may contribute to late diagnosis. We compared advanced HIV disease (AHD) at care enrolment between males and females in Latin America and the Caribbean ...

Genomic and Epidemiological Characterization of DENV‐1 and DENV‐2 Co‐Circulation During the 2023–2024 Dengue Epidemic in Espírito Santo, Brazil

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, Volume 98, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT In 2023 and 2024, Espírito Santo state, Brazil, experienced its largest dengue epidemic in 30 years, with record numbers of cases and deaths. This study aimed to characterize confirmed dengue cases and the dengue virus (DENV) during the epidemic and pre‐epidemic periods.

Analysis of Climate Variability of Homogeneous Regions of Rainfall Anomalies in Southeast South America (SESA)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, Volume 46, Issue 10, August 2026.
We studied rainfall variability and cyclicity in six Homogeneous Regions of Rainfall Anomalies (HRRA) in Southeast South America (SESA) from 1961 to 2020 to understand the occurrence of droughts and above‐average rainfall. We use a continental analysis scale, focusing on seasonal, interannual, and interdecadal cycles, and their association with modes ...

Fire‐induced shifts in activity patterns of predators and prey in the Brazilian Pantanal

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, Volume 90, Issue 6, August 2026.
Using camera trap data, we observed that 5 of 6 prey species showed statistically significant changes in temporal activity patterns, while jaguars were the only predator species to adjust activity when comparing pre‐fire and post‐fire periods in an isolated rocky formation in the Pantanal region.
